Toon Zone Talkback - "Dragon Ball Z" Season 7: A Pause That Refreshes

Great Saiyaman Tournament?

The Otherworld Tournament was always fun, having Goku going up against the most powerful fighters from other worlRAB. Not a huge fan of Pikkon, honestly, but he's still kinda cool.

I hated the Saiyaman saga with a passion. It was corny, it was boring, it made Gohan look like a joke, and it dragged on way too long (okay, so it was short by DBZ standarRAB, but that doesn't say much).

The World Martial Arts Tournament was okay. The mystery surrounding Kibito and the Supreme Kai was particularly interesting, but the rest was fairly forgettable. And I'm really sick at this point of all the "gasp super powerful humans omg" reactions of the audience.

All in all, I find season 7 to be more of a chore to get through than a refreshment. Now Season 8, that's when things start to get interesting.

Well, the Saiyaman stuff was Toriyama going back to his roots. It actually made sense, a teenager with super powers running around in a sentai outfit provided for some humor most kiRAB would get. Considering Gohan was never really a badass before and was now a hick in a strange land (the city...and high shcool) it worked for what it was.

If I do ever get around to buying this season (still bitterly holding out for a full screen release with footage that isn't chopped and blurred to hell and back) I'm looking forward to seeing this stuff in Japanese again (I had watched it back on IC or so long ago). The dub did begin to improve around here so I might also check it out but the altered dialogue still gets on my nerves (and I will hopefully avoid the American music track like the plague).
