Toon Zone Talkback - Disney/Pixar's "Brave" Pre-Release Discussion

It being good matters more then it being a Sequel and Pixar's movies tend to be good regardless. They are one of the few people I believe that can make sequels as good if not better then the original.

Concept art looks pretty impressive, just like Up's concept art.

I think this is going to turn out really well. It also looks a shade darker than most Pixar films, and it could easily be darker than Up, actually.

I also approve of the hiring of an actual Scottish actress to portray a Scottish girl. Never knew Reese Witherspoon had been initially attached, though, that was a surprise.

Poster is out!

Well, holy moley, that is an awesome poster! It looks like nothing Pixar has ever done before, something that can really allow them to unleash their visual power and strong writing. That poster looks like a painting, I want it on my wall!

I've said this before. One of the advantages of the Pixar/Disney alliance, is they (the artists) can experiment on certain aspects of the cgi procesd. I believe they did this with Tangled which was on the level (visual-wise) of a Pixar film. We have to keep in mind every Pixar film is only made to challenge the artists, to see what they can push.

Bugs Life- nature
Finding Nemo- underwater, sea life
Toy Story 3- aging toys
Monsters Inc- Sully's hairy body
Incredibles- aging humans, and human hair
Cars- chrome, reflection, speed, dirt on metallic surfaces
Wall-E- outer space, more aging earth products and dirty surfaces
Up- Balloons, aging human
Ratatouille- more hair, food

Neat. I kind of like how she's not traditionally beautiful the way you'd expect a Disney Princess to be (as compared to Queen Elinor). Lord Macintosh (hardy har har -- he needs a black turtleneck and a reality distortion field) and the Wise Woman look hilarious, though.

Merida does look a bit creepy to me too, but I think it's because of how wide her eyes are in that picture. She also looks much younger than I thought she'd be. Queen Elinor reminds me of an older looking Mulan, but I think it's because of her hair. Lord Macintosh looks pretty funny and the Wise Woman looks like the traditional creepy wise woman figure. It should be interesting to see these characters once the trailer for the movie comes up.

Didn't get a teaser trailer when I went to see Cars 2. I'm guessing that only a select few theaters will get the trailer. Then again, my second guess is that Jerry Beck haven't been truthful with this news.

Not loving the main character's design. We'll get a re-design later this year/sometime in 2012 before the film's released.

I didn't see it either. Really disappointed about that.

I doubt that. A hi-res pic from the trailer has appeared online:

Wouldn't it be crazy if a hit toy franchise comes out based on her?
Imagine, toys that encourage girls to go out on adventures that get people interested in things like archery, that boys would want to play with too!

Having seen the trailer, she looks a lot better in motion, and even before I enjoyed her atypical look. Or maybe it is a typical look sine it's a lot truer to how girls actually look in real life. ;P

Am I the only one who thinks that only Pixar could get away with making our next "Disney Princess" look like a baby doll?

That said, the trailer was excellent. I'm getting a bit of PPG vibe out of the way they've got a cute babydoll-ish girl as a hiney-whooping fighter. :)
