Toon Zone Talkback - DIC Launches "KEWL Cartoons" Online Streaming Channel

That Girl....

This is the talkback thread for DIC Launches "KEWL Cartoons" Online Streaming Channel.

As much as I have a dislike of the modern DIC cartoons, this is a genius maneuver on their part to get the most out of their multitude of properties that they have that were basically sitting in their vaults. I guess this what they'll be doing rather than trying to make a deal with a company or start their own cable network.

The costs are minimal since they own all the properties and all they have to do is encode them for online streaming, which is a lot easier than spending millions on a channel that would not likely have that many viewers.

Anyone is welcome to me, especially since no one's going to release the rest of the series, and Gadgetinis, while pretty awful, never made it over to the US.

Ya know, didn't they have something like this several years ago, on a different website, like Yahoo or something?

Anyhoo, they have Mummies Alive, which is awesome.

Yes, Yahoohilgans. Didn't even know it was gone.

Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills? Please tell me this wasn't anywhere near as bad as I imagine it to be. I'm not even going to try that.

They also have Beverly Hills Teens, AND in it's original syndicated form, which hasn't been seen in over 20 years (although it has the early to mid 90's version of the "Kid in Bed" closing logo). Now, I have to say that that's:

"Totally awesome to the max!" (Really, it is)

They also have the rare TV special "Meet Julie".

DIC must also still have the Gridman license since the site also has Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad (not a misspelling, BTW).

You know, if we watch this enough, they MIGHT add other shows.

Now, I'd like to get serious for a moment and say that I actually take issue (somewhat) with them calling it "Kewl Cartoons", even though they have two live-action shows. Long story short, this could just be another excuse for the Cartoon Network to add more live-action (Well...uh....there's this site called Kewl Cartoons and THEY have live-action). However, that's for another topic.

Anyway, I hope they don't push Saint Se...er, "Knights of the Zodiac" on us (long story).

Inspector Gadget is from the DVD set...the one by Shout! Factory? That certainly is a fail on their part...or it would be if it weren't for the fact that BKN International (AKA: Bohbot Entertainment) has all worldwide TV rights to the show (now that LBS is no longer in business). So, I think we shouldn't worry. They'll probably give is the rest of the show (including the second season) if they decide to add more episodes.

Personally, I would LOVE for them to add Popples to the site, but they would have to get the okay from AG for that.

If you mean the TV distribution license, then that rests with The Program Exchange.

If you mean a DVD license, then there is a DVD that either recently came out or is about to come out, but it's a bare bones single disc release with only a few select episodes and no extras.

...or perhaps you mean some other kind of license?

So that's Dino Squad. Catchy theme song anyway...

I like this thing. It's pretty neat and it has some oldies on it. What a Mess from ABC's old Saturday morning line-up and stuff. And holy crap man... not only Tatooed Teenagers but also SUPER HUMAN SAMURAI CYBERSQUAD!!! (lame show, GREAT name)

How delightfully nostalgic. I feel the need to go AVGN on these failed attempts at entertainment... though I guess that's more like going "nostalgia critic" on it.

No worries about Seiya or Sailor Moon... Toei pulled those rights (definently Sailor Moon's maybe Seiya's as well).

I hope they throw more of their old action shows on this and definently some Mario toons... and dang it why are the only Sonic things Underground and the Christmas special? Where's my Aosth and SatAM?

This show was so bad, I'm sure it violated one, if not more, United Nations and/or NATO accords -- as well as offending the NAACP, the ACLU, the ASPCA, the NOW, and every other human rights group in existence.

I never heard of Prostars before but it looks...bad. It doesn't sound like Bo, Wayne, or Michael did the voice-overs, either. Was this ever a real series or just one or two videos?

By the way, Bo Jackson was the inspiration for the character my avatar is based upon.

Believe it or not, Prostars was a real program. It ran on NBC from September 14, 1991 to July 25, 1992.

Bo Jackson, Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretsky appeared as themselves in live action segments, but in the animated segments they were voiced by Townsend Coleman (Wayne Gretsky), Dave Fennoy (Bo Jackson) and Dorian Harewood (Michael Jordan).
