Toon Zone Talkback - Details On 'Beavis and Butt-Head'

That's my point - they won't be really making fun of them. They'll say some funny stuff but it'll just end up being an excuse to promote that abomination.

You never know, they made fun of currently popular bands/videos back in the 90s as well. i distinctly remember them ragging on coolio's gangstas paradise as well as blind melon, silverchair, filter, and the toadies, all bands who were in heavy rotation on mtv at that time.

Gay jokes? I dont recall Beavis and Butthead ever really making gay jokes. I think whats gonna happen when they watch UFC is get really excited about people beating each other up and then try to kick each others butt.

True but MTV didn't have millions of their own dollars invested in those bands back then.

That and The Soup, though they probably won't be able to be as funny.

The UFC thing will be awesome. I love the UFC and B&B so it'll be interesting to see what they say, especially about Velasquez beating down Lesnar and then the Undertaker calling out Lesnar afterwards.

They can't self-deprecate? And besides, there are plenty of other comedy series that made fun of shows on their network. How is this any different?

Personally, I think it's way too early to go paranoid and talk about how the new B&B won't be as good as the original.

They may or may not truly make fun of Jersey Shore, we'll have to see, but that's the smaller issue. The bigger issue is that what they'll be doing is nothing different than what The Soup and Tosh.0 and countless other TV and internet comedians do, except that those things aren't constrained by having to stay within established character. If B&B stay like we remember them, it's hard to imagine they'll be very funny just making random crude remarks about things that already aren't meant to be taken seriously and already get made fun of by everyone else. In the 90s they could do that because they were making fun of people who took themselves too seriously that other shows/comedians mostly weren't making fun of.

I wish All of beavis and butt-head were on DVD instead of selective ep by mike jude. The Mike Jugde collection Does NOT do the series Justice.

I agree as well. I always enjoyed the episodes themselves and found myself not caring for them MST3K various music videos. I just wanted to see them do stupid stuff.

Well, I'm weird that way.
I had a thing where I refused to watch music videos (they all look like nightmares) so I've never really seen that part of their show. I listened sometimes and maybe had a few peeks, but mostly I just wanted them to get back to the cartoon.

Reporting in as well. When I was younger, I dreaded those segments since they would take up time during the show and I didn't particularly care for those musicians, nor did I understand much of the humor.

Actually, the videos were sometimes the best part (especially in some of the later seasons), since they used really obscure or older videos that otherwise wouldnt get mtv play. Sadly, i dont think they'll be doing that on the new series. I wonder if the side characters like anderson, van driesen, buzzcut, and stewart will still be around (daria obviously cant as she's no longer owned by judge). I also wonder if they'll use any modern animation techniques that have come around since 1997 (when the show was cancelled).

I did like the music video segments, but I have to agree with the others before me, I also dreaded them. The problem was they would interrupt an episode to show a five-minute music video that sometimes had pretty dull commentary by B&B. Add to that, commercial breaks which felt like they dragged on for ten minutes.

They needed to juggle the music video segments better. The show should have opened with a music video, then shown an episode in its entirety, commercial, music video, then another episode in its entirety.

I hope B&B watch a lot of 'classic' music videos and not just current stuff. Music videos today aren't as 'oddball' and strange as they were in the 80s/90s.

I'm not much of an otaku (I like FLCL and Cowboy Bebop, that's pretty much it)
But I think B&B doing commentary on anime would be awesome. Not mainstream stuff like Pokemon, or Naruto though. Obscure stuff. There's so many odd anime series out there. A lot of twisted, gory cartoons that would make for funny comments by the two. Imagine their commentary on a show like Eiken..

The thing about the commentary is that, the humor during those segments was much smarter than the normal episodic segments. They were both dumb, but the things they were saying were almost idiot savant like when they critiqued it.
