Toon Zone Talkback - Deal Reached for "Simpsons" Voice Cast

I was more refering to the act that voice overs don't stick to just one show (No matter how long it is been airing), they try various other forms of speakable media to get their voices out. I was just using video games as an example. Though I can see how commercial are a "more profitable" for VA, mostly radio and TV spot, since everyone will see/hear them, and since they're short, they can do yet another one. Though the ones I hear on the radio I always thought they were "local talent" unless it was for big name brand that might be heard across the states.

Not to mention making major revenue for Fox and its honchos. In a way I totally understand. Might as well reap the benefits while the show's raking it in.

I might be misunderstanding you, but I'm just saying that doing multiple shows along with video games isn't something voice actors do out of choice, but out of necessity. It sounds to me like you're saying voice actors choose to jump around from show to show. The fact that most voice actors jump from show to show isn't some sign of creative freedom, but really indicates how little money there is in one cartoon voice acting gig. They're not trying other forms of speakable media as much as they're hustling to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.

The Simpsons is not a typical animated show. The way it's produced is probably closer to a standard live-action sitcom than most other animated programming. On most other cartoons, it's possible to do multiple gigs concurrently, but that's not true on The Simpsons.

Besides, no actors job hop by choice unless money isn't an issue for them any more. A steady acting gig is a pipe dream for a lot of working actors.

Yeah I'm starting to think that there is some sort of misunderstanding so I'll try to explain what I meant again. This time with a better understanding. (I hope)

I just don't think it profitable just to stick to one platform for VAing, or in this case one show. Sure I understand that if their acting gig is steady enough they don't need to job hop, but it good parachute plan to atleast tryout for other shows instead of sticking with The Simpsons. Cause who knows when that milk from the cash cow will dry up, or when the studio decides to call it quits for them (though I find the latter highly unlikely, since it is one of three things FOX has been constant with over the last 20 years or so). Unless their contract forbids it, which I don't think is possible, since I atleast seen Nancy name in the credits of other shows, and I think Hank works in Live Action field. I just don't see people like Tom Kenny for example, only working on Spongebob, he voices for various other cartoon, whenever it be one-line thing, or another main character on another show.

In the American anime market case, I've been noticing for a while that most VA for them switch between Texas and Califonia market since the New York one is rather dried up, and more money could be made in California. I thought they resort to doing that for the pay so they can support themselves and their family lifestyle, though I am questioning for some if the studios pay for their plane ticket or not for those who switch between Texas and California. Also since they're non-union, I'm not sure how much that holds up though.

I know that the Simpsons has a higher budget than most animated shows on the airwaves, It has to be a given with their animation has evolved, it's in Prime Time, and the fact that a majority of the people who work on the show are unionized, otherwise it wouldn't have been affected by the strike. I support the Simpsons VA looking for a better pay.

I?ve always wanted to ask. Is it really fair for Yeardley Smith to get paid roughly the same amount as her colleagues? I understand that she voices one of the primary characters, and as a fan of Lisa, I really appreciate all of the work that she has done. However, most of the other voice artists who are requesting a raise do a lot more work than she does, as they voice primary characters in addition to many supporting characters. Unless she does some other things that I?m not aware of, it doesn?t seem like she works as much as her colleagues.

She only does voice one other character to my knoweldge, but she was also called Lisa jr, and that was only one episode and the same exact voice. At least the voice of Marge does the voices for the other Bouvier women, but there was at least some sort of voice tweakage going on their. But one person shouldn't weigh down the rest though.

They picked... a really- and I mean... a REALLY bad time to do this, considering that Fox is trying to make The Pitts into an animated series. This is just giving Fox more of a reason to push new animated shows as replacements.
