Toon Zone Talkback - Date for Fourth "Ice Age" Announced

Why does a series like this deserve so many sequels? Is plot for this franchise really so complex that it warrants THREE additional movies?

Does Cars need a sequel? Does Monsters Inc.? Will all of the people complaining in this thread lodge the same complaints against those movies? Suffice it to say, entertainment is a business and the free market has spoken. As long as they are still capable of telling coherent stories while making it entertaining, and Dawn Of The Dinosaurs did that, there’s nothing wrong with them making another. I’m just curious if they’ll somehow have Buck return. He was probably my favorite character in that movie, but he decided to stay behind in the jungle land.

Same thing here, dude. In my opinion, the best thing to ever happen to Ice Age was Buck. He is awesome on unchartable levels. I reget I didn't see the third in theaters just because of him. If they confirm his return, this movie will go from "incredibly lame" to "must-see" in my eyes.

I did. I complained about all those sequels you mentioned.:p

Actually, you know what? I would much rather a slightly-above-average series like Ice Age get a sequel then a really good film like Monsters Inc. I imagine that I'll like it about the same I did all the other films in the series.

Unfortunately, that's not how the industry works. If it makes boatloads of money, they'll generally make a sequel out of it, whether the quality is there or not.

The folks behind Shrek have hits like Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, and How To Train Your Dragon to make endless sequels out of.

Blue Sky, on the other hand, only has Ice Age.

Honestly, very few films actually need to have a sequel. 9 times out of 10, movies sequels are made because the previous film made a decent amount of money, not because the film artistically warranted a follow up. The producers of Shrek admitted in an interview that the original Shrek was not meant to have a sequel and that money was a prime motivator in making Shrek 2.

Regarding the Ice Age movies, I've only seen the original and Ice Age 2, and I wasn't terribly impressed by either. I still haven't seen Ice Age 3 and am honestly in no hurry to ever see it, as I was underwhelmed by the previous 2 films.

how Ice Age 4: the Crackdown.. sounds better than continental drift :p

well, Blue Sky also has Horton .. which they can at least make a new Short Horton Hatches the egg.. or whatever that title was.. and Robots.. I think..

Blue Sky will continue to make Ice Age movies as long as people continue to go see them. We could get 9 Ice Age sequels as long as the franchise continues to make Blue Sky and Fox money. That's just capitalism at work.

Awesome. I loved the first two movies and I recently saw three and really enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll enjoy this one as well.

Dreamworks didn't make Ice Age. It's by Blue Sky and released by FOX.

Blue Sky has actually proved itself to be one of the best animation studios out there (Actual animation, the visuals, etc), so if the Ice Age movies help them along and turn them into a big company to rival Pixar and Dreamworks, all the more power to them.

While Horton Hears a Who! was lacking in writing, it splendidly transferred the Dr. Seuss world into CGI, and Rio is gorgeous looking (and moving) as well. If all of their sequel profits help them to make better movies, they might just be the next Dreamworks (Going from pop-culture average films to really wonderful films).
