"Uh, let's see, we've done the ice age, melting of the ice age, and dinosaurs. What do we have left?"
"Well, we could always do continental drift."
"That's ingenious! Put it into production right away!" "That was a joke."
All hope of this one having interest to me was lost when they made the idiotic decision of having their best character leave the herd in his first movie.
As with the 'Shrek' franchise, it's all about the benjamins. I guess people can't get enough of a savage, yet inept squirrel trying to cling onto his nuts. (Did that come out right?)
The fact that Ice Age 3 was the highest worldwide grossing animated film of all-time seems to disagree with that.
Not that I'm not in support of this, but I thought Ice Age 3 would the iceberg that sunk the ship, but people around the globe inexplicably ate it up. Funny considering how average the original did at the box office, when it came out I never ever imagined it as a Shrek-like franchise, and still can't even fathom it.
I just died a little on the inside. Not dissing Ice Age 3, as I have never seen it, but it's a second sequel with mediocre reviews for crying out loud!
It's actually the second highest grossing animated film of all-time. Wooh! Upper hand!
But seriously, Ice Age may be as big of a franchise as Shrek, but it doesn't have as big of a company behind it, like Dreamworks. Blue Sky is still independent, am I correct in saying that? However, aggressive advertising and the positive reviews of the first film are probably what made Ice Age into the popular frachise it is now.
It's a possibility. But CGI is too difficult a medium to shell out every product with every year, even if the products are cheapquels. Unless they were to make them in traditional animation. But, believe me, that would not be a pretty picture.
I'm not too surprised with a fourth movie. The franchise is still doing well and with the sales from the third movie, it makes sense to do another movie. I've only seen the first two movies, so I can't comment on the quality of the third movie. If this movie focuses on the heard being brought to modern day, then that would be pretty cool to see.
It's good to hear the release date and title for the fourth movie. I'm looking forward to seeing it, I've enjoyed each film even more than each of the previous ones. They just get better and funnier to me (unlike Shrek, whose first two movies were great and then they gave us that stinker of a third)!
I would have been happier if Buck stuck around though, he was an excellent new character.
