This is the talkback thread for "Darker Than Black": A Pale But Entertaining Copy of Stuff We've Seen Before.

But seriously, I am awaiting the next DVD.

I found the pic used in the banner to be quite hilariously out of context.

The trailers look wonderful and Bones does great work, though I've heard mixed stuff from the reviews so far, in terms of how long it takes the complicated plot to really come together. I think I'll probably wait until a few more discs get released so I can plow through them.

So, I was just wondering, is this one of those anime that tries to be really cool? And, by that, I mean an anime that throws in stylish music and cool looking characters who pull off cool looking moves in bad-ass action scenes, but in the process, doesn't actually bother to give its story any substance, and has flavorless, bland, and dull characters who don't really get much development, as the director feels that just making them look cool, and not giving them emotions, will be much more appealing to most audiences.

I haven't seen the series myself, yet, and I was looking to get into it, sometime in the future, but the review made it seem like the above things which I mentioned were mostly the case, with this anime. However, I have heard mixed opinions regarding DTB, so now I have no idea whether it would be worth my time to check out, or not. If it does actually develop its story and charaters into something a little bit deeper than what the review made it seem to be, then I might consider checking it out. However, if other people tell me that the review pretty much sums it all up, then I don't think that this anime would be right for me, after all.

Any opinions?

Funimation has the first 3 eps streaming for free on their site: http://www.funimation.com/darkerthanblack/

I couldn't get into it when if first aired but now I'm quite curious. I love the little quirks the Contractors have and am interested in seeing where the series is going. I'll wait for a boxset, however

Yes, there is an actual story, though it takes a little time for it to pick up steam. Around episode 5 is when you start seeing where the over-arching story is going to go. It's somewhat episodic (IIRC, it's mostly a collection of 2-parters except for the end) but I found the various adventures to be pretty unique and enjoyable. It's not my absolute top favorite series, but I found it entertaining and pretty interesting to follow. I would definitely recommend it.

I encourage anyone who hasn't seen this series to do just that, see it. While some things within this anime have been done before, I feel that Darker than Black is very entertaining and worth your time.

While Hei is slightly emotionless, I wouldn't call him an ass, he is just doing his job. One thing I really like about this series is that we really don't find out a lot about Hei all at once, just bits and pieces. We learn that though he is a contractor, there is more to him. I don't want to give things away so I won't go much further into that.

Noveraber 11 is indeed an awesome character though. I love how he does his work and that he is proud to be a Contractor.

Misaki took awhile to grow on me, I wasn't sure exactly where they were going with the character, but eventually I became aware of just how awesome she is.

Anyways, as I said, I reccomend giving the anime a shot. While the series as a whole is episodic, the main plot itself is pretty damn good.

I would suggest this anime highly...I am just wondering what the reviewer means when he says it is a pale and entertaining copy of shows that have been done before...I'm sorry but I haven't seen anything quite like it.
