This is the talkback thread for "Comic Party Revolution": Bad Comic, Boring Party, Failed Revolution.

How could they screw up so badly?

Ah, how refreshing it is to see this get a good roasting. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that the quality differences between Comic Party and Comic Party Revolution are useful illustrations of the writing problems that are currently plaguing a significant segment of the industry. The original wasn't all that special, but it was valid and credible and decent enough for what it was. Then this comes along, and it was a revolution all right--it overthrew nearly everything that was a draw for the original show. Because that always works. The comments about characters being reduced to gags are dead-on. The only one who doesn't suffer is Kazuki's friend Taishi, since he was always a bit of a nut with that "my brother!" stuff.

Incidentally, the most infamous case of this has to be Mizuki. As the review says, in the original series she's basically the normal girlfriend tolerating the whole otaku/manga-ka subculture. In Comic Party Revolution, what happens? The writers, in their infinite wisdom, decide to have some laughs by having her transform into a magical girl via a fanservicey transformation sequence. I'm sorry...what?!

Man, what bad memories. If I were making a top 10 list of the worst anime released on DVD this probably wouldn't make it, but it certainly wouldn't be too far off.

I never really liked the first series because...it was pretty boring to me. This second is actually a little better, but still meh, but there's a good reason why people shouldn't freak out about this.

Think of this as a retelling, or it's an alternate universe version of Comic Party, really.

The cast looks pretty good, I mean, no, really, the cast has lot of diversity, which was something I said in another review, if I'm correct.

I liked the first series (Comic Party) a lot, and when i found out about Revolution i was very happy for more Comic Party, but it disapointed me greatly. Its like a completely different series (and its not very good either).

Actually, Taishi does suffer a bit, but that's mainly in the dub since Liam O'Brien was so awesome in the role (same way he made the Girls Bravo dub more fun than it should've been).

You know, I could have handled the magical girl stuff if they had kept it in the cosplay episode. But then they had to go and reuse it in Episode 13, coming off the heels of one of the, like, 5 scenes of non-pandering fanservice in the last 15 years, and making an otherwise serious episode completely and utterly stupid.

It's funny; going back and looking at my old posts, when I watched the first episode on Anime on Demand, I clearly seemed to like it. But I never watched any more episodes after that, and I bet if I went back to the show nowadays, I probably wouldn't like it. And I haven't had any motivation in the last three years to look at the rest of the series, which kind of says it all.

Two possible reasons as to why I said I enjoyed the first episode back then:
1) In 2006, I hadn't seen as much anime as I have now. So things were still fairly fresh in my eyes.
2) I was in a very good mood that day.

Maybe it's a corabo of both.

A while back I started renting every anime in my library because it's, well, free. And I finished a ton of "just solid at best" or mediocre anime series (IMO). Moonphase, Angelic Layer, etc,. Comic Party was the only series I decided not to continue after the first volume. That's saying something.

You know, you would think that doing a review on a site with the world's largest anime encylopedia (and essentially Wikipedia before Wikipedia existed) would require getting facts straight. I don't know where it got into the reviewer's head that this was based off of a dating-sim hentai game. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if there WAS a Comic Party dating-sim game, but the original franchise-starter was a serialized manga.
