Toon Zone Talkback - Comedy Central Preps New Toons; "Futurama" Returns

Spoofing GI Joe has promise; you'd think it would have been done by now outside of Cheat Commandos.

JC will bomb just like every other highly blasphemous animated series has. Alienating a large portion of your audience is never a good thing.

What I really want is another personal series that comes purely from the talent of a small group of people, which is what's kept South Park going all this time. These "outrageous" premises make me yawn.

Red vs. Blue's animated series was supposed to premiere this summer.

If you've never heard of it, despite the title, it has NOTHING to do with politics. But it's a comedy(and later comedy/drama) web series that's been running for 8 years now and shows no signs of stopping.

I agree, its like theres some federal law stating that all adult cartoons must make fun of religion, especially Jesus. Im sick of it!

Those first two sound promising. JC has staff from American Dad so I expect it to fit in well next to Futurama. The G.I. Joe parody sounds a bit too much like one, but it comes from a King of the Hill staff member, so it might be worth a watch.

I have no interest in Supermax however.

JC will bomb just like every other animated series with a humorous depiction of Jesus or God as it's premise in the past has bombed. Either outrage from various religious groups will force it off the air, or it just won't be very funny. I think that Comedy Central tries to hard to be adult and edgy with their animated shows. Yes, Comedy Central, South Park is one of your biggest hits, but that doesn't mean that every original animated series that you air in the wake of SP's success has to similarly push the envelope.

Joe Squad might be good for a laugh or two, but a parody of GI Joe might get old after a few episodes. This one seems better suited to be a fun special rather than an endless series.

The premise of Supermax doesn't interest me in the slightest.

"Joe Squad" sounds like the best of a weak bunch.

As far as "G.I. Joe spoofs, "Robot Chicken" has done good work in just a couple of minutes ("That's classic Fumbles."). Who knows how a 22-minute show will play out?

Comedy Central lost any claim to edginess when it wimped out over South Park's depiction of Mohammed. It's big on Jesus-bashing but it censors any parody of the Islamic prophet. It looks like a cowardly hypocritical channel now. I'll tune into Futurama and keep watching South Park, but I avoid anything else on CC. I have a very low opinion of it now.

The Drawn Together Movie would be perfect for Comedy Central to air, but they have a lot of censoring to do to it. As for these new shows, they'll be canceled in three weeks time. Can't wait for Futurama.

I'm looking forward to the new Futuramas. The show should fare better in its' original 30-minute format; the movies felt padded to obesity.

None of the other shows sound like they have a long life ahead of them. Joe Squad sounds like the most promising of the bunch, though that's not saying a great deal. It could be brilliant or get old really fast. JC sounds like the weakest of the lot, and will probably get yanked off the air the quickest. If the religious groups don't force JC off the air, it'll probably just suffer from the limitations of its' one-joke premise.

Time well tell of course, but aside from Futurama, nothing here's really grabbing me.
