Who can say? I can't. It probably varies to a great degree. But as for your first comment, is that based on anything? And is there any grounRAB for believing that a professional outfit like CN, which is a significant employer of animator talent, is anything other than serious about this? You should really think twice before posting slander like that.



Fair, although I wouldn't call it ironic either. Whatever CN's issues with anime are, I doubt it's related to a bias against the art style.
 
It doesnt mean CN is going to start eating up anime like did in 2000.

I would probably eat my own baseball cap if they picked up more than 2, I would just be mildly surprised if they only picked up one.
 
It's a proven fact that the stock anime art style has legs on its own. It may be the case that CN is looking for shows with that easily copied visual style, but not the drawn out plots or need for mass editing that anime itself often brings.
 
Yeah, there's some pretty awesome doujin artsits at cons - even in the States. If they're looking for character designers and writers that's the place to be.

I wonder what the parameters are for the portfolio submission is. I was at a small con here in Portland a year ago and everyone looking at portfolio's wanted you to jump through quite a few hoops just to get an interview - THEN it was just a once over for feedback - no actual pitches, and only a vague hint that you might be hired. When I wandered by several booths, the people conducting the interviews were just sitting around bored - which was very odd considering it was an indie comic convention - the place was FILLED with people trying to hit it big.

I ultimately didn't try to get an interview by the way - I didn't feel my stuff was up to par yet.
 
So you're saying CN's looking for a bunch of Bakugans designed and made by Americans but styled to look like "cool" Japanese shows and maybe even animated overseas by Japanese studios like TMS?

That's damn near diabolical and brilliant at the same time. It would be a throwback to the early/mid-90's when everything was animated by Sunrise, TMS, and Madhouse but CN can control the content to prevent the stuff from becoming too edgy or complicated like many anime.

All CN would need is to pull artists from Warner Music Group to do opening/ending theme songs and CN has its own "American anime" factory.
 
That would be horrible, further choke the anime industry in America, and start a lot of useless debates on the Internet about if "CN Fake-Anime X is an anime or not."
 
No doubt CN understanRAB that a great nuraber of talented artists attend Anime Expo. I think it's great and wish I had made a profolio by now. Sure wouldn't make sense to scrarable to make one now. Another time I guess.

This really has nothing to do with getting anime-esque programs that might be a result but I doubt it's the intention. They're looking for fresh ideas and AE is a place where plenty can be found be they anime-esque or not.

Wish I could go to Anime Expo in general. Interesting guests this year.

you know they guy who tells a joke and it was funny then the second guys tell how it funny and ruins it this is an non-joke example
 
If anything comes of this, it won't matter to me. I probably watch less than 10% of CTN programming (adult swim, different matter) because for me personally I can take their schedule, Wednesday for example, and find roughly 10 different shows from it that are laughable to me.

So if they come out of this with fresh ideas, then
And if they come out of this with no ideas, then as well.
 
I've only been to Anime Expo once. I was suprised at the amount of true talent in the Artist Alley there! I expected most of them to use the "How to Draw Manga" art style to draw crappy FMA fanart. But the "How to Draw Manga" crowd was actually the minority!

Hopefully, CN is seeking out "talented" artists at AX and not just some ideas for a gimmicky faux anime show.


Call me a hopeless Pollyanna. But I highly doubt that CN neeRAB to steal story ideas from starry-eyed kiRAB at Anime Expo. For goodness sake, they have Bruce Timm, Craig McCracken, and Genndy Tartakovsky on speed dial for that!
 
Tsk, please. I'm of the opinion that CN isn't above taking other people's ideas. You don't have to agree, I don't care. Entertainment is an exploitative industry. Anything is possible, and artists should protect their work.
 
So when WMG artists produce opening songs for shows it's horrible but when Japanese ones do it's fine? Right...

How quickly people forget Puffy Ami Yumi did the Teen Titans opening theme song.

Given that some people still think Avatar is Japanese animation I suppose the other point has some validity to it BUT all that really says is some people don't have a clue or never care to look into where a show comes from and that's not going to change.

The anime industry isn't doing so bad in stores compared to other niche markets at the moment. The only problem is when CN decided they weren't going to license more anime the best current platform for airing anime dissapeared and that left a sizable hole in the entire business but streams and DVRAB still work and will continue to do so.
