This is the talkback thread for Bandai Entertainment Announces New August Titles Including "Sola".

Well, Sola's finally released.

Oh wow, Gundam 00 part 2 is coming two weeks after part one. That makes the big delay much easier to take, I had assumed that the release schedule would be pushed back. Good.

Sola will be a try-before-I-buy title. Ditto for the .hack movie.

Sola lacking a dub kinda makes me question buying it. The Japanese cast was quite good but I prefer watching dubs, and I wonder why Bandai wouldn't pay for a non-union dub to be made, even if the near-amateurs who did Familiar of Zero and Nanoha (and actually weren't that bad at it) were to handle it. Toward The Terra was another good show that could have used a dub.

Maybe I'll just fandub Sola someday to fulfill my need for a dub of this show.

. . .

In short, I'll buy it because Sola's finally affordable and I need to pay my dues for watching it fansubbed but a dub would've been really nice, Bandai.

The increased lack of dubs is odd. I'm specifically confused why the Lucky Star OVA doesn't have one. Granted we had signs it wasn't selling well, but it had a generally strong dub (aside from Patty), so I'm amazed they wouldn't bring those actors back to dub this as an incentive for more sales.

It's starting to look like unless they have a TV deal, Bandai don't want to dub it.

Are you sure about the Lucky Star OVA? Rightstuf lists the format as Hybrid, in contrast to "English subtitles" for a title like Toward the Terra.

On subtitles in general, I can only assume it comes down to cost-cutting and playing things very conservatively to make sure that they stay afloat for the immediate future. Which I can understand, especially considering that Sola and True Tears are BVUSA holdovers when you get down to it.

That said, they need get assertive again eventually. 2008 was a great year for them, whereas this year it seems like they've been very quiet. They can get by on 00/Geass/Gurren Lagann for awhile, but of the three only 00 will be a fresh release throughout 2010. Titles a step below (in terms of fame) like Kurokami and Freedom will also finish this year.

I'm hoping for a good Otakon and/or Anime Expo from them. Even 1-2 new A-grade acquisitions would give me confidence that they've still got it.
