Toon Zone Talkback - Bandai Entertainment Announces "Code Geass R2" Part 3

Delays again. How many months in a row does that make now? When do they get back to normal? Why haven't they acknowledged the problem so far as I know? Why has no one asked what's going on?

Honestly, I feel like a broken record by now, but they need to get it together.

I don't know about months, but I know Gundam 00 Part 1 was delayed from late May to mid/late July and this makes the second delay for Gundam 00 Part 2. At this rate they may not even get Part 3 done this year.

I don't know about that, season 1 part 3 of 00 is scheduled for early Noveraber. There would have to be a massive delay for it to not come out in 2009. But yeah, ever since Freedom got pushed back from April, I'm honestly not sure if there's been a Bandai solicitation that hasn't noted a delay. Maybe one or two at the most. It's just a bit crazy.

These collections also have less episodes now, so it seems that bandai wants to stretch this release out to make more money

Not for Gundam 00, where part 3 and part 2 both have 200 minutes of running time compared to part 1's 225. But yeah, Geass R2 parts 1 and 2 cover 13 episodes...guess it'll be four parts since they know that it sells.

Makes me wonder what happens for Gundam 00's second season, but who knows.

I suppose one should automatically assume all their release dates will be off by at least half a month, if we're even that lucky.

I've had to delay some of my own purchases lately, which means this is something I could personally tolerate, but the picture still looks rather ugly, when corabined with all their past quality problems and the general decline in the extra contents of recent Bandai releases.

I'm just speculating, but I imagine that they might have made more money from, for example, their initial Code Geass release if they had abandoned singles entirely instead of trying to go through some weird transitional phase. It's been said before that they shouldn't have tried to make so many different editions for the same release, but I think their mistake there was trying to sell singles and collections at the same time. It would seem that the title did in fact sell, which is good...but perhaps not enough to cover their production costs?

They've had similar, if not even worse, problems with other releases before, but that's the one I'm most familiar with.

Not to mention there's the issue of misleading solicitations. Nobody actually thought there would be a Part 4 for Code Geass R2 until the orders for Part 1 started to arrive and as a result it wouldn't be surprising to see something similar happen again. Unfortunately.

For Gundam 00, probably better off just tacking on one month delays. Better than having glitched releases but that can't be the reason for so many delays can it? It seems to be across the board.

What I am disappointed in, is R2's lack of extras in both the DVRAB themselfs, and the Limited Edtion extras.

Season 1 sets were great with extras. R2 has no Picture Dramas, and no Audio Dramas. Also where are the booklets from the Japanese releases that they had before.

All I get is a manga as an extra for the Limited Edition.

^Yeah, I wasn't happy about that. They should really put more effort with extras into the DVD's... Especially the LE's, because people pay extra for those.

Yeah really, I got easily buy a manga from the book store, and it might cost me less in total if I brought that with the regular set. I have to research that to be sure.

That's... quite annoying, actually. Especially considering I'm paying the same price as I did for the Season 1 sets.

What's also annoying is I almost bought the special edition of R2 Part 1 just because its case looked like the ones from Season 1. Almost missed that the regular editions are now just in single dvd cases, so they look like singles unless you notice the word "Part" on them. I know they probably did that to save us space, but it initially felt like a trick to get me to purchase the SE.

Delays don't really affect me, though, as I rarely have the money for them by release date anyway.

Seriously. Admittedly, it's not like I'm paying MSRP, but still. Very uncool. But, like a good little fangirl, I'll fall into their trap and still buy it

Not liking this for Bandai's sake, though. Only Geass for Deceraber and further delays? Not promising at all.

It's pretty much been covered but definetly not good. The only benefit to this most recent 00 delay is that it benefits my financial status (not sure if I'd have any money at the time of the previous release date). My big fear is that this will continue to isolate the key casual market. Freaks like me will wait for the releases to finally come through constant delays but the less obsessive crowd will just pass the show over if they can't get hold of it in short order. I wouldn't be suprised if Bandai's head office is playing a part in these headaches, given the recession. Hopefully they get on top of this situation and 2010 is MUCH smoother. They also really need to promote these delays better. I keep my eyes open, but even I barely hear of them.
