Toon Zone Talkback - Anime Boston 2009 Day 2: Marching on Boston

I had never been to a big con before, so I didn't even think about industry news, and FUNimation's announcements seemed surprising and big. But now that you mention it, there should've been more. And yes, "Bad Anime! Bad!" was hilarious.

There used to be a lot more. 2 years ago Funi did a huge announcement for BECK along with a few other shows all at the same time, and there were other companies making news.

This year, just the one new title.

How exactly was it huge, other than announcing it? And wait, you mean there are other anime companies that do stuff?

There was one new title, but that was actually announced earlier that day online, so the big news stories were the cast of Evangelion 1.0 and Sgt. Frog information.

BECK itself was a big title. They had a bunch of people associated with it at the con and a lot of promo stuff. ADV used to have announcements for us, Media Blasters usually had one, Geneon would have one or two, heck, even CPM usually had something to say at a big con.

These days, only Funi does much of anything.

Yeah, I do wish Funi would've done more, but at least they had some announcements. Mike McFarland announcing the Evangelion 1.0 cast was a nice surprise, even if I don't agree with recasting Greg. The funny thing is when I sat down, he was standing against the wall and I was like "that has to be Mike McFarland, but if he was going to be here, why wouldn't they list him on the site?" I asked him after and it turns out noone knew about it, and the FUNi rep at the panel flew him out to Boston just before.

At least Funi can do that much, unlike any other company.
