Toon Zone Talkback - "Alvin" Sequel Slated for 2010

Cause it made money.

These anti-Alvin threads are getting played out. The movie wasn't that bad and made a good chunk of change. Accept it, people.

That's just the nature of the biz. The first Chipmunks film made some money, so of course someone said "We have to make a sequel!". Besides, no one is forcing any of us to go see the movie, just the trailer for it if you go to a theater.

I just want to know if there is something for them to work with from the first movie. What didn't the first one cover or conclude that this one could...or continue if they want a have a third one.

I never liked Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Who the heck said "Lets pitch all our voice actor's voices while they're singing and animate it!".

It sounded like a funny gag they did when messing around with voice technology overdone.

That'd be Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created the Chipmunks' voices in a series of novelty songs in the late 50s (starting with the pre-Chipmunks song "Witch Doctor", which became a hit for Bagdasarian, prompting the eventual creation of more "chipmunk" music). The animated series "The Alvin Show" soon debuted in the early 60s.

Lots of movies don't deserve or warrant sequels but have gotten them anyway. The creator of Shrek openly admitted that he originally had no intention of making a sequel to his story, as the original Shrek story did not warrant a sequel, and that money was the main (if not only) motivating factor to he and Dreamworks making one. Was Revenge of the Nerds worthy of 3 sequels? Shell no. But they got them anyway because the original Nerds made enough money for the studio to consider a sequel to be feasible (mind you, Nerds III and IV were made for television).

It all breaks down to dollars and numbers: if a film makes a substantial profit, then there's likely to be a sequel. It's rarely (if ever) an issue of quality.

Awe crap, I was hoping they wouldn't get a sequal. But I sadly knew some how that it would seeing as how well it did in thetares and on DVD's. What next a sequal for Speed Racer? Meh. Wonder what this one will be about, Alvin most likely LOL.

Janice Karman said in an interview that it may be the Chipettes this time around, as rivals in the industry. Maybe a Destiny's Child type vibe.
