Toon Zone Talkback - "All Dogs Go To Heaven": Heaven Help Us! This Is The Best You Can Do?

Wow, that is hilariously awful. They completely butchered everything.

Yes, that's a horribly underrated sequence - the situation is dynamic, the animation is great, and the music, for one sequence, is actually pretty good. Another scene I love is the alligator bit. I know it's become synonymous with "sudden pointless scene" and it does comea little out of nowhere, but it sets up a later scene and, honestly - the giant gator is singing! How can anyone not love that.

I've watched this movie a couple of times and it grows on me a bit more with each viewing - it's not perfect (no movie that contains that awful scene with the skittles-puppies is even close to perfect) but it looks good and is very atmospheric. I think of it as kind of a combination of Bluth's "good" movies, with him "doing Disney" in his own unique way, and his "bad" ones, where the overall quality of the films went down but they're so completely off the wall as to be almost worth watching anyway.

Yeah, I've never been able to not cry at the end of the movie. It's just too bitter sweet for me. Even though I don't think I'll be able to watch it anytime soon, I should try to get the movie on DVD at some point given how much I do like it. I'm sorry that you and your sister lost your dog too. It's still hard to deal with, but hopefully, they're both at peace now.

While the alligator scene does come out of nowhere, I always thought that the fact that it does set up the scene were Carface is killed, along with the water causing Anne-Marie to be sick, didn't make it pointless. Although, it was still pretty sudden musical numbers.

After getting a better look at the Blu-Ray cover, it really looks terrible. Anne-Marie looks like she's older and the Itchy's leg look like it's about to be broken. I've noticed that quite a few re-releases of animated movies that I like tend to have really lousy cover art compared to the original covers.

Funny how even MGM realizes that you can't mention All Dogs Go to Heaven unless the Big Lipped Alligator? is involved.

Breaking joints is actually very common in animation as it gives it a realistic snap to the moving the limb while if it would be animated the way it moves in real life it would look less realistic. Of course it's only supposed to be for one or two frames and the audience is NOT supposed to notice it! I wouldn't be surprised if whoever was drawing the cover just paused the film on one of those frames and copied it.
