Toon Zone Talkback - ADV Films Dissolves; Parent Transfers Assets To Other Companies

Thread title changed slightly to match the actual reality just a bit better.

Yeah, ADV did good work. They certainly led the way during the industry boom. A decent share of my collection is their stuff: Shinkai's movies, Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin), Full Metal Panic, Kaleido Star, and their release for Kanon. I was also one of those people that bought Newtype USA nearly every month and relished it.

Guess we'll see what happens with their catalog from this point on...

(sigh)

All I really hope is for the voice actors. FUNi's been pretty repetitive with their VA's recently, so I hope they get attention of people such as Melissa Davis, Hilary Haag and any other obscure ADV voice actors.

Seriously I really wish the people who worked with ADV would appear somehow in other companies, even.

Speaking of dub studios, I personally think the remaining R1 companies here should consider subcontracting to other dub companies in America, you know, kinda like what Funimation did when getting Lisa Ortiz to reprise her role as Lina in Slayers.

Everyone's forgetting the dub of Ghost Stories. My God, that dub is full of R-rated win.

It's weird given that it seemed ADV was finally recovering with more new releases as opposed to just the rereleases that they'd done for two years or so. I was looking forward to the Ghost Hound release. Is it still on track to ship?

Something noted in the press conference, the companies taking pieces of ADV seem to be subsidiaries of Aesir Holdings.

I wonder how future Robotech/Macross products will be handled, since ADV has handled that line for what...nearly a decade?

Huh? Damn you legal jargon! Well from what I gather this is just a bunch of barely legal asset transfering so that the company formally known as ADV will no longer have to pay off its massive debt. For crying out loud, former ADV Senior Vice-President of Business and Legal Affairs Griffin Vance(what a name) is the one who set up these LLC's which all happen to have the same postal address as his law firm in Houston(according to ANN).

So basically, ADV is now Section 23, whatever!

So the company that now retains the Anime Network rights... I wonder what they're going to do with them? Strategic partnership?

We all saw it coming. It's just odd that ADV's assets ended up slit between a bunch of small companies but I imagine more of their titles will end up in FUNimation's and potentially Bandai's hanRAB... maybe even some other companies such as Media Blasters maybe getting Samurai X to complete Kenshin.

People are mostly interested in live action than anime. I hope FUNi gets BGC 2040, Azumanga Daioh, and Yotsuba&!. And I do pray that FUNi would get the green-light to start the production of BGC 2041.

I'm sort of sad because I mean even with all the mistakes, I appreciate that ADV really did love anime and did a great job of bringing anime to the masses, even if its anime a lot of people might not be into. ADV sort of spearheaded bringing more anime to our shores so for that I'm grateful.

Well that sucks. I kind of predicted this would happen. It was bound to happen, especially when all they did (or so it seemed) for the last couple of years was re-re-re-rerelease DVD thin-packs of their old shows (seriously they made a Christmas version of Chrono Crusade & Evangellion then 3 months later re-released them again as normal versions). I had a feeling that it would happen when they lost the rights to most of their newer shows.

I always liked them, but it is pretty obvious who the kings are now (and they really don't have any competition anymore) FUNimation!

Here is what im hoping Funi will save....

Neon Genisis Evengelion
Robotech
Slayers Movies\OVAS
Bubblegum Crisis
GunSmith Cats: Bulletproof OVA (Ironically i was just trying to find a copy of this to buy earlier today)
Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie
Nadia

If Funi Saves these & Relrelases them at Cheaper Prices, I will be a happy man, I guess NHE & Slayers would be Pretty obvious for Funi TO acquire, but I Don't think Sonic is to far fetched since they helped 4kiRAB distribute SX. Also I havn't been able to FInd a copy of Gunsmith Cats on DVD ever, I rented the VHS back in th Day & would love for Some one to acquire it & releaese/Rerelease it on DVD.

Also I guess this Moves Grave of Fireflies up on my "To Buy" List.

Note: This also helps fuel my theroy that Someday soon Funi will be the Sole Anime Provider in the US just as Someday Viz will be the Sole Manga Provider, Yes yes slowly they sit & wait for the Day they rule over all US anime fans & Otaku...MUHAHAHAHAHHAHAAA!!!

I don't think you need to worry about FuniMation saving them; they're STILL going to be available, just from one of ADV's now reduced outposts (Section 18). Proof: Go to RightStuf.com and search for all these titles. You'll see that they still have Section 18 on them, just not ADV.
