Toon Zone Talkback - ADV Films Announces New August Titles Including Three Geneon Re-issues

This is the talkback thread for ADV Films Announces New August Titles Including Three Geneon Re-issues.

The list of re-releases from ADV seems to be getting smaller each time. That makes me nervous...

Are there even many left to re-release? They've been doing fresh new releases for existing titles for months upon months now.

Sadly, nothing for me. I rented Sakura Wars TV once, and I was struck by how it could be slow and even boring so often. Not very entertaining at all compared to the OVA's, which is too bad.

There are some (Dirty Pair Flash- or heck, ANY of the Dirty Pair movies/OAVs, for example), but I'm not sure if ADV holRAB the rights to them anymore.

They don't. In fact, ADV seem to have lost some other Sunrise shows too, like City Hunter and Aura Battler Dunbine, so they can't suddenly do a Battle Angel Alita and 'find' more copies of any of the underprinted volumes of either of those series.

The fact that ADV lost what Dirty Pair material it had even with David Williams noted for being a huge fan of the series is interesting to say the least, especially in the light of all the other older re-releases ADV subside on these days.

Okay, here is my biggest problem with ADV Film re-releasing titles from other companies. Who the heck is going to buy Darkside Blues? Granted, it's cheaper than what CPM was asking, but, seriously, is ANYBODY going to buy that? I watched that anime years ago and it's nothing special.

I bet ADV got the license for dirt cheap. That's probably the only reasoning. Because I agree: Is there really a market for an obscure title like that? There are other titles in the CPM library that I'd like to see them rescue more, but oh well.

I think what would be a better option for ADV and FUNi to take with these re-releases is to take the route of bundle packs. I'm not going to pay $15 for Darkside Blues, but if it came bundled in a pack with Roujin Z, Dominion Tank Police, and Venus Wars, I'd slam $15 down for that. I know that ADV is capable of doing this because I've seen them bundle Neo-Tokyo and Complete New Fist of the Northstar for $15. If titles are dirt cheap, why wouldn't you market them as bundles?
