This is the talkback thread for Toon Zone News Interview Series: "A Life in Voice Acting" with Bob Bergen (Part 1).

Bob Bergen was a tremendously fun and patient interview subject, and addresses a lot of the questions that I've seen crop up around here at different times about how to be a voice actor, at least from his point of view.

I also tentatively have the next two subjects lined up for "A Life in Voice Acting," but let's get through part 2 with Bob Bergen first, coming on Monday.

I indeed do remember when they were beating that drum: "NOEL BLANC IS THE NEXT MEL BLANC! LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON!" And then no one heard from Noel again.

Noel DOES show up in the credits of one Tiny Toons episode, but not as a Looney Tune.

He would not play Bugs until he voiced him in that Family Guy cutaway where Elmer blasted his guts out.

Really good interview. Lots of good questions and an obvious rapport between interviewer and interviewee. Looking forward to part 2 :)

I always wondered why a lot of American actors soley do Anime voices, and no other cartoons. Producers sure are shallow...

Carlos Alazraqui is the only actor I can think of that has done work in both American and Anime cartoons.

There are a few voice actors who do anime and American cartoons. Bergen himself has done a handful, and Michael Sinterniklaas and Veronica Taylor both seem to switch hit pretty regularly.

I'm sure there are producers who are just shallow, but there are also others who are just working under tight constraints and will go to what they know rather than take a risk on an unknown quantity. Bergen points this out himself, and I think it's just part of the lot of being a voice actor.

I prefer those who take risks. Lots of gifted actors who aren't celebrities would love to burst out of the nonunion anime scene. It's not easy to get work when celebrities are getting the right of first refusal.

Very insightful interview. No matter what type of actor (voice-over, television, film) they all have similar struggles. BTW, I always wondered why Noel decided not to carry on for his father.

Looking forward to part 2.

I don't blame the guy, and frankly I am amazed at how he stood up against the "Producer" and told them what he thought about the edgier LT shorts they made. This guy has really gained my full respect of doing something you won't feel comfortable with.

Mari Devon, Scott McNeil, Gary Chalk, Ian James Corlett, David Kaye... there's a whole bunch.

Granted, most of them are in Vancouver and we're talking Canadian dubs and Canadian animation.
