Toon Zone Talkback - "6Teen" Getting Live-Action Spin-off Movie

A live-action Jonesy... the mind boggles...

I wonder if this film will be released at all within the United States, given the cartoon's short lifespan on Nickelodeon... not to mention trying to get episodes of the show, which for me seems limited to either:

A) Amazon.com selling downloads of them (which seems to be Windows-only, unfortunately for me)

B) buying the show's DVDs from the Canadian Amazon website (and shelling out big bucks for international shipping), or

C) buying some of the DVDs the next time I'm visiting Canada (like my trip to Toronto last fall)... not sure when that'd be (the earliest would probably be this summer)....

Guess the show should be feasible in a live-action setting... though wonder what the stand-in for the mall will be (Toronto's Eaton Centre?)... or how many times in the movie Jonesy will get fired. ;-)

-B.

I'm not really a fan of 6TEEN, although I admit that it's a lot better than I thought it would be at first, and some of the jokes are fairly clever. I don't think it's popular enough to be a successful movie, even here in Canada. I can't imagine what the plot might be like, and it doesn't seem like the sort of show that would be best-served by a 90-minute format. I just can't see why they'd want to do this, especially as a live-action thing.

I like 6teen and think its show was too short on NIck. I would like to get it on DVD myself. Also , I heard there was more eps made than was on NIck I would like to see them. :)

You took the words right out of my fingertips.

I love "6teen" (and strongly feel that it never got the fair shake it deserved in this country), but...who knows how it'll turn out?

I've recently taken the time to catch a couple of eps of the show to see what I was missing, and... It's not bad. The voices on the show tend to grate for me, and the animation seems to belong to more of an acquired taste, but there's some clever and risque stuff in there.

But as for a live-action movie of it.. Why bother?

Oh, I pray to God that Nickelodeon relinquishes the show. It seems obvious they didn't really have any faith in it (let alone that Nickelodeon is notorious for canceling a lot of good shows in their prime). I can actually see 6teen doing well on Adult Swim or some such. (The absolute best cartoon on Adult Swim, IMHO, is The Venture Bros.)

I would love to get the Canadian Season 1 set! First, I gotta' get me a real job.

In my general opinion, I always thought the character designs (by Faruk Cemalovic) were really cute. (Cemalovic also designed for another Canadian series, Grossology, of which I'm also a big fan.) And the stories in 6teen are very well thought out! It's a breath of fresh air, IMHO, from the mediocrity of the current American cartoon model.

But as for the new movie being planned, I still think it would work better as an animated film. I can't quite picture the characters in live-action, unless the actors are really true to form. They have infinitely more charm as animated characters. It is what it is.

I don't think the show would work on Adult Swim (not badly animated enough/doesn't have enough cursing or crude humor ;-) ). A better home than Nickelodeon would be The N (or even MTV, where the series it reminded me of, "Daria", aired in the 90s).

You've got a very good point!

The only downside was that The N's airings for Daria were edited, and some episodes (particularly the "deep" episodes) didn't air at all! I'd say, The N only aired a good 75% of the series.

MTV's another good choice, although they're rather dubious, too. They don't seem too enthusiastic about animated shows. (They cancelled Clone High USA, leaving five episodes unaired!) After Beavis & Butt-Head and Daria ended, they kinda' lost interest in animated shows. (If they have any new shows right now, someone's gonna' have to tell me, cuz' I don't know about them.) I'd go out on a limb and say that their animated shows were the best things they aired (amid a sea of mediocre reality shows)!

And yeah, 6teen does have a kind of Daria flavor to it!

Ugh, don't say the B-word when refering to the movie. That was the worst thing I've ever seen. Anyway, the 6teen movie should be better.
