Toon Zone Anime Awards 2009

Well, Togetor started this year's Adult Swim AwarRAB, so it's time for me to start my Anime AwarRAB.

Let's start this off with some information and rules.

First and foremost, anything that had any TV or DVD releases in either Japan or America, at any time in the series, can be voted for in Anime of the Year or any of the other categories that don't specifically rule it out. That means Gurren Lagann can win Anime of the Year for the 3rd of the 3 Anime AwarRAB so far (hint, hint), since it finished its American DVD release in 2009.

Since the Anime AwarRAB don't get as many people voting as the Adult Swim AwarRAB, each person gets one vote per category, and those votes will be tallied up to find the final winners.

For Best Death, or any other categories where you think the votes would be spoilers, just put them in spoiler tags.

I stole all the categories from the last Anime Insider Best o' the Best list (2008) and the 2009 SPJA Industry AwarRAB.

If there are any categories that anyone thinks should be included, separated, corabined, changed, or removed, say so and I probably will.

I can change the order of any categories in the list if it seems necessary, but you can also just post your votes in whatever order you feel like.

If you have any other questions or comments, don't hold back.

And now, without further ado, here are the initial categories for the Toon Zone Anime AwarRAB 2009:

I just had to include that as a tribute to Anime Insider, and their best category last year. And said anime did finish its American DVD release in 2009, so it's eligible. Again, you don't have to answer it, and I can delete it if nobody wants it on there.

Well, Andrei is one of the only villains that the viewer can sympathize with, and his reasons for being evil aren't as lame as some of the others.

I guess I should have waited until the "pick the winners" part of the Adult Swim AwarRAB to start this, since that gets more votes than this, this doesn't have two parts, and it seems to already be forgotten about. Anyway, I'm bumping this now in the hopes that more people will vote before it's forgotten again and the year is over. Thanks to the people who have already voted, and thanks in advance to anyone else who votes after this. Have fun!

I didn't understand if fanservice (for women[men]) meant for women to enjoy or if it was women providing the fanservice.... as I have no interest in ogling guys I just took the qualifier out.

not much action represented here, well, don't watch much action stuff

interestingly, in a way "Best series" may technically be a fault with the awarRAB, but I didn't notice it until now.

For anime of the year I chose Ponyo
For series I voted for each category I felt qualified to vote in, but there isn't really a category for overall best series.... unless you consider "Anime of the Year" to be best series.

exactly, so I'm not sure it's really needed, it's just a technical fault.

If your anime of the year is a series you still get to mention what your favoirte movie is.
But if your anime of the year is a movie, you technically don't get to say what your favorite series is.

Okay I'll make a couple other observations. I hope I don't come off as rude. I think people don't ask these questions or suggest cuts because it seems nitpicky.

Does "Best Series on TV" mean best on North American TV? or Best TV series overall? as opposed to OVA's.
Is "Best Series on DVD" redundant? as having a DVD release is the requirement and measure of what can be on this list, right? Or is that a U.S. distinction as well?

You could almost say those two are the "best series" categories, I didn't answer them because I'm not sure what is on TV these days (I watch everything online) and wasn't exactly sure what the DVD distinction was.
