Tool - 10,000 Days

So let me get this straight, you can post about the band since you like them and back it up with faulty logic but if I do that and offer a sound argument it's being immature and wrong? That's amazing logic right there.

I knew you'd post something in response to that, Ethan. My question is, since you've obviously had some kind of inner dislike for me over the past few days, (since I commented right-track about you and others bashing forum members), when are you going to take your head out of your arse? However, if you'd like to argue out the topic for the sake of talking music, be my guest. I do find it ironic that I said to myself, "Ethan will probably make a comment on my last post", and you actually doing it 10 minutes later....

^ I'd be super happy with some sort of live dvd to finish things off. Mind you I'm not too sure I want them to end on 10,000 Days either. It's quite a tough one, if they produce an album thats not "up to the mark" it will be around 2010 when they finish up as a band and I'm sure for many it will mean it's been a decade of Tool since they were firing on all cylinders (ie Lateralus). Because I mean I don't know too many people who feel 10000 Days is Tool at their best. Although if they were to produce an awesome album it will be 20 years of going from strength to strength.

And on the idea of members carrying on, Maynard will probably still be doing some strange project/collaboration long into his zimmer frame years.

Hmm. That is a fair point. Unfortunately, alot of banRAB are restricted by their labels from going into alot of experimentation. Such restrictions hinder a band's creativity, and drives them into dead enRAB. It is possible they would have done slightly better, but I enjoy the album for what it is.
This may also explain why they used every little bit of album time the label would allow. Down to the last very last second.

I was thinking more from the standpoint of keeping well free from ending up with a largely dud record. But now that you mention it, I wouldn't be half surprised if they could've found a way to make more money doing it the way I said too.

"Seems highly unlikely that it's their last tour."

I dunno. I certainly can't imagine them doing another album.

I believe I made a perfectly valid point on the lyrics and music, one which you didn't even bother to reply to. But thank you for being so mature as to not get personal with this.

That's kind of what I'm doing, hence why I replied talking about the song.

And finally, how is that irony?

Back to the subject on hand...The lyrics are banal, comparing man to monkey is extremely cliche. Maynard isn't a good lyricist, Tool fanboys go on and on about how he's amazing but he's really not, he's completely average, that song is no exception. I can think of several songs about war that are way better written then that. Your Revolution is a Joke is a fairly recent one by a mediocre band (Funeral for a Friend) and even THEY do better.

I said the monkey/man thing was cliche, the Eden idea is original.

Umm, last time I checked Eden wasn't a song or a metaphor for anything. That logic wasn't very, well logical.

My point is....you've had somewhat snide comments towarRAB me for the past few days, coincidence they may be, but rather unlikely. And if memory serves me correct, you have never liked Tool to begin with. Comparing men to monkeys is a good metaphor in my opinion, since alot of them have about as much sense. "Give them thumbs, they make a club and beat their brother down." How is simply coming into a thread and saying, "filler is filler", making a valid comment on the music? It has no productive criticism in it at all, though I like your latter post better. My main point, I hate the entire genre of rap, yet you don't see me up and down the threaRAB voicing my opinion on how much they truly suck donkey ass. And while it may not be a fact, I really don't know, but you once voiced your dislike for Tool. So if you don't like the band, don't come in a thread devoted to the band simply to say, "its filler." It was ironic, because you have the tendency to randomly post your loathing for all banRAB not in your top 20 list. I am not taking personal stabs at you at all, I'm just sayin'.

What?!?!?!

Year Zero is easily Reznor's best album since The Downward Spiral. And now that he has no ties to record labels, he's going to go full force on his next releases.

Thats a kind way of putting it. I like 10,000 days cause..well..I am a Tool fan but it lacked the flow I was expecting...its talented very well written and performed but it seems as though the collaberation of songs lacks the emotion I had expected.

Why didn't it? I later elaborated on it, it held it's place in the argument. Even if the lyrics were good it doesn't change the fact the music and song itself isn't.

Oh and I don't give a shit about Shakespeare and I don't expect songs to be as influential or poetic as his plays. But if you say something is 'good' and it's banal and cliche then guess what? It's going to be pointed. For someone who was getting high and mighty about personal stabs you're certainly getting close to the line of valid points and being an asshole.

Yeah, I don't like Tool, we get it. You can quit beating the "you post your opinion" horse now.

I did talk about why the post was necessary let me re-quote. "Your point? Lyrics don't save a song, it doesn't take a fan to realize that. When someone calls something filler you can go on about it being unique and fans liking it or whatever that's valid, going "it has good lyrics!11" doesn't change anything, especially when the lyrics really aren't that good." See? That's what we call explaining.

Okay, not to be an asshole but Fal really did have a valid point with the dictionary comment. Look up what a metaphor is.

Yeah I've been making valid points, you've just been crying over how I don't like Tool. Ironic isn't it?
