Tool - 10,000 Days

Because I am bored and when I am bored I look to debate music, this is a music forum if you don't want people posting in certain threaRAB make a private forum. I expanded on my points and explained them, you didn't even bother replying to them you just went on and on about the same thing. You're the reason this is 'getting quite old' because you're the one who kept debating it for three pages now even when I tried to turn it back to music and back to my posts, which I'm still trying to do and you're still avoiding doing.
 
Considering as how I work as the sound technician for a local church, I happen to know it's used frequently as a metaphor for man's warlike nature. If you want some proof, I'll give you some directions and you can join their Sunday School. Or you could spend 12-13 years in classes devoted to it, then come back and tell me you've found no proof that no one ever used it as a metaphor. Seriously, quit the nitpicking and drop the subject. Emo is a commonly used theme in songs, so I suppose the entire emo genre is cliche. Let's drop it, eh?
 
That would be a good choice for a first purchase. I just like Lateralus more than any of the other albums. Aenima has alot of Tool's best songs on it too, so either way they'd be making a good choice.
 
Emo is a genre of music, it can't be cliche or a theme in music...

Since you're so learned in this it really shouldn't be hard for you to google one of these many songs should it?
 
I'm a little surprised no one is saying Undertow is their fav. album. That is def. my favorite. It's full of power and some lighter stuff, too. However, as far as 10,000 days, I don't know. It's alright. I think as long as they continue to evolve as artists and people and make the music to make themselves happy, that's all I want out of them. They obviously don't care about making music for the mainstream, so as long as they hav a different sound that challenges u and makes u think, that's all I want. I think 10,000 days succeeded in that aspect.
 
i nearly did.
i went and saw them in december. dude it was so amazing! i was lucky they came to Seattle because they never tour on the west coast. it was one of my dreams that came true. to see Tool live. its completely a must see show especially with the light show. pretty much the most amazing show i went to last year.
 
It's called "End of Eden" and non published, but like I said, you can always come down here and talk to the guy who wrote it. Our band leader writes alot of the music for the church itself, and most of the lyrics. He has written a song and sermon on Eden, and how man's warlike nature has continued to increase ever since. How such trivial arguments end up starting full fledged wars. Let's see...common themes to emo music. Suicide. I could probably find a bunch of banRAB in the emo genre who write about suicide, and call their songs cliche. You'd probably jump all over my ass in defense, or whoever would happen to like the band in question.

ok i noticed this and although i dont liscen to them much id like to say heres a crazy guy in town that say god took away his wings and they'll be returned in 10,000 days
 
why is it that Tool are often grouped together with NIN? musically they have nothing in common, only particular common ground is the lamea$s hackneyed lyrical content.

Tool has created epically great albums consistently, and 10,000 days only has one song I don't like on it. the segues are very well placed and thought out.
 
Hmm. Kinda strikes me as odd, since his lyrics in A Perfect Circle while somewhat lighter, (and better), still hold his same old style.
He's also fronting the new band Puscifer, and they attempt to get even darker than Tool on some points.
I wouldn't mind seeing him branch out. Wonder why he isn't doing it.

Edit: Now that I've read the interview, it doesn't seem like he wants to branch out into indie territory.
I think the point he was trying to make, is that he just didn't want darker banRAB than Tool opening for them.
He'd rather have something like an indie band do it. That's the way it comes off to me, anyway.

Meaningful and cliche are different worRAB. Something being cliche isn't subjective. Being cliche means a popular metaphor, image, idea etc, comparing men to monkeys is a popular image, thus it's cliche.
 
It depenRAB on the band for me. Would be boring for a band like Iron Maiden to just stand and play, yeah, but not, say, Pink Floyd. Tool aren't really the type of band I'd want to watch 'rock out' all that much. The lights/visuals suit the music perfectly.
