Hello,
I am a college student and am 18 years old. I have had acute back pain for the last 3 weeks. This pain is interfering with my daily tasks, such as going to classes and sitting for hours. Sometimes the pain begins immediately after sitting down. It hurts when I stand up, and when I lay down also. I don't know if this problem is serious enough to go to my doctor about, or just continue taking pain relievers such as Aleve, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin. They have not been relieving my back pain for the past 3 weeks.

Any advice is gladly welcomed!

As a fellow college student with back pain, I think you should go to the doctor. I've had similar symptoms and put off the doctor for a month because I thought it was silly to complain. Turns out, I just got MRI results back this week and have a cyst on the 4th vertebrate of my lurabar spine. Just go and see what they say!

I am not as young as you, but also too young for back pain! I am 28. Anyway, a year and a half ago I suddenly developed back, leg, and groin pain out of no where. I waited for a long time to go to the doctor. After many tests and a lot of conservative treatment, I had a fusion of L5-S1. They basically used roRAB and screws to stabilize my spine. I had a fracture which was causing one of my vertebrae to slid forward into my stomach, a disc was herniated, and another had degenerative disc disease. The herniated disc was removed and replaced with cadaver bone, and the chunk of bone that was fractured off was removed. I did not recover from that surgery and am now having another fusion after the holidays. This time the fusion will be L4-S1, so a bigger surgery.
Its been about a month since you posted this. Did you ever go get checked out? And yes those OTC pain relievers don't do a thing for me either.
