Yeah, I already do that. I don't think I have a coating on my tongue. It feels like sand paper already and brushing it makes it only feel drier. Not sure what is going on. The worse part is the gelatin feeling saliva. I feel like I am chewing my saliva, which in turn makes my tongue thrust against my teeth. I am so worn out. :(

Is anyone else having problems with their tongue or saliva? I am wondering if what I have is in fact acid reflux if it is causing my tongue to be thrashed? It looks cracked and has a white coating. I have taken a lot of anti-fungal medication but it doesn't go away completely.

Also, I noticed it seems my teeth are decaying at the roots. My guess is that the acid that is refluxing into my mouth might be causing destruction to my teeth. I brush them all the time - mostly to get rid of the icky feeling I have on the inside of my mouth. My saliva seems thick and mucous-like.

I am taking Prilosec and I happened to read the package yesterday. It said to let your doctor and/or pharmacist know if you are taking anti-fungals. So what the heck. I don't know if one is cancelling out the other.

I have had all the blood tests, upper G.I. and chest x-ray. All to no avail. I still don't have a diagnosis so I am left guessing. If anyone else is having oral issues I would sure like to know.

It could be that reflux is damaging your tongue, it could definitely be damaging your teeth.

Anti-fungals can't really be absorbed into the body if you are on PPI's so talk to the doctor about that when you have a chance.

I think it is affecting my teeth too. They are sensative and I have had to deal with canker sores on the back of my throat. It is all so crazy.

doctors can be incredibly unhelpful. it still amazes me. your symptoms sound very uncomfortable and i'm sorry nobody has been able to help you.

have you tried going to a naturopath?

Thanks for the response. I went to an oral surgeon yesterday thinking he might have a clue for me. Of course he did not. He said everything looked great. I don't him my tongue probably wasn't the worse that he had seen but it has changed so much and is very uncomfortable. It feels like a dry desert and now I have this gelatinous saliva, which he had actually heard of. He blamed it mostly on my age (early 50's) and hormones. He made the strangest recommendation - go back to my doc (yeah right he is helping) or go to a DERMATOLOGIST!!

He did believe me that I had Burning Mouth Syndrome and gave me an Rx for the magic mouthwash (a compound of 3 or 4 ingredients which includes lidocaine) but guess what - he didn't know what was in it and hoped that the pharmacy would know. Well of course they didn't so they called him. He suggested again - my doc or a dermatologist. The pharmacist then asked me if I wanted to give my original DRAB a call see if they knew. They said well we have this one kind of mouthwash . . . Then she said well I will call the Oral Surgeon and see what he had in mind - I hope they are still there and we are closed tomorrow!

Aye! I feel like I am in the twilight zone or just one big circle jerk.

Hello everyone - Sorry we all have to meet this way. Fancydancer, I see your from Az. also. I got so excited, I thought I was the only one in Az. with this problem. I've had burning mouth, sticky saliva and very dry mouth for over 4 years now. Been to ENT, Md, Dentist, Gi, Naturapathic, Neurologist etc, etc. No one can find anything wrong. This problem makes you very unsocial, the more you talk the worse it gets. There has to be a solution to this without walking around like zorabies taking the meRAB. I excepted this problem last year and really trying to cope with it. It has helped some what. I really thought I was going to lose it over this. Now it's just one day at a time. The mouth seems to change constantly especially the burning part on the tongue. I'm glad to know there's more like me out there.....Terry

Wet your tootrabroadrush with running hot water, brush your upper mouth , then your tounge repeatedly. You will see that you are washing the thick coating away.
I do this everytime I finished brushing my teeth, morning and night and also one time in the middle of the night if I feel sour in my mouth.
My dentist also told me that eventually the acid reflux is going to damage the enamel of the teeth. Also when you feel sour taste in your mouth, rinse and drink a lot of water.

Hey Mood. I am sorry you have the same symptoms as me. Maybe it is a regional thing. I have lived here for 5 years now but this all started in March. My saliva is all foamy and driving me nuts. I looked at my tongue/saliva in a magnifying mirror and saw that there is a slime on my tongue, white patches and bits of white in my thick saliva. It makes me so mad when my doctor just literally glances in my mouth and says it looks great. If it was so great then why was I there? Really, I have better things to do. I am still looking for answers . . . It is pure misery.

hi ask your doctor about a bloodtest for b12 it could be that your levles could be low

Hi fancydancer,

I'm having problems with my tongue, saliva and throat also. I've had GERD for a long time but not until recently I developed a burning throat that wasn't associated with reflux. Also the tip of my tongue burns sometimes, as well as the roof of my mouth. I've had a dry mouth, possible from different meRAB I'm taking and I think this might cause some of it. I have patches on my tongue also and it's white most of the time. I'm thinking I might have burning mouth syndrome. My saliva is really thick too and I have a lot of thick post nasal drip, which irritates my throat as well.

Hello everyone - I was put under and checked by a GI guy for acid reflux disease, he found nothing. My MD said it can only be one of two things, your sinuses or your stomach. Guess what, he was wrong on both counts. That was almost four years ago and alot of doctors later. I just keep researching for new things and telling the doctors what I find. Sad isn't it!!!! Breath Deep - AAAHHHHH!

You'll need to switch toothpaste like I did. I don't have this problem anymore. I use baking soda and also have a prescription for flouride. I put baking soda on my tootrabroadrush and add a little flouride. The buring tongue feeling will go away in about a week, also watch out for real sugar drinks, they make your teeth sensitive. I also have the dry mouth, I'm not sure if its from the acid reflux or my high blood pressure medicine but I can't stop taking it, it's the only one that brings down my blood pressure. If your taking any medication that you don't have to be on then stop it, this may ease your symptoms also.
