TomTom Navigator 6 and N73: Need Help

I guess I just thought this would work together but doesnt seem to. Tomtom home doesnt recognize my n73 is connected to pc so i cant install the nav software to my n73. i tried to do it manually but i wasnt able to. can anyone help me make this work? thnx in advance. I have the DVD version for PDA/smartphone.

I have TomTom running on my N73. You're looking for a .sis(x) file. You may need to call TomTom and have them help you, I got a different package. Are you trying to connect via Bluetooth or data cable? Do you have PC Suite installed on your computer?

I have PC Suite installed and verify that my N73 is connected to my PC (via USB) but TomTom home doesn?t recognize that there is device attached. According to Tomtom.com to install on a symbian device you need to install to a memory card first. So I place the memory card into my card reader and then select the miniSD as my TomTom device to install. I follow the TomTom instructions (which say to select the type of device the miniSD will be placed into and then select the appropriate software for a s60 3rd edition device. And when I click on install I get an error message that the software will not work on this type of device.

I tried for hours last night.

Tomtom phone support is terrible. The tech was more argumentative then anything else. He was also ignorant. He told me that my 1gb SD card wasn't big enough first and then kept asking me if I was sure I didn't have a Palm.

Can anyone here help me out.

I'm sure the guy on the phone had no idea what he was talking about but there is one thing that he was right about. If you're planning on using the most current US map then your 1GB card is definately not big enough. The NA map is about 1.2GB...

Make sure you format your card first. Then try putting the phone in storage mode when you connect or put your card in a card reader and see if you can install it. It should work OK that way. I don't think that it will work in PC Suite mode and it looks like that's how you're connecting.

I actually have a 2gb card and I only want to store CA map on the card.
I tried to install the software in mass storage mode which basically makes my N73 a card reader. Its weird, here are my steps:

1. I formatted the miniSD card.
2. Connected via mass storage.
3. Selected my device and selected to change the target device type.
4. This is where I get a long list of possible device types. I select S60 Third Edition Series from the list and I then get a notification that there is no software available for that type of device.

It seems like my TT6 DVD just doesnt have the software on it. It lists software for the following devices only: TT App for Palm, TT App for PPC, TT App for S60 and TT App for Symbian UIQ 3rd Edition Mobiles.

When I select my device as being a S60 Third Edition Series I am informed that there is no software available for that. Why do they list that type of device then?????? Just for the heck of it I told TT Home that my device was a Symbian UIQ 3rd Edition Mobile and for that it will allow me to install the software for a UIQ 3rd Edition Mobile. However that will not install on the N73. It says unable to install.

Im lost.

Does anyone have the S60 3rd Edition files and could possibly send them to me. I do own TT6 and am not asking for any maps. I just need to get the darn app on my N73.

You are correct that you don't have the right softwware on your DVD. You need to contact TomTom (or the retailer you bought the package from) and let them know that you did not get the correct item.

@elwuero

PM me and I'll help you out with your installation offline.

@thetruth

Yes, you need a GPS receiver in order to use navigation software with your device. I use the newer model Nokia bluetooth receiver and it works wonderfully.

In case someone searching for info on this finds this thread I have figured out the following.

The US version of TT6 does not contain software for the s60 Third Edition series of Symbian. The box says it works for the N80, which I thought had the same OS as the N73. However the DVD which I confirmed was the latest does not contain the software.

You need to get the EU version and then purchase a US map if you want that. Maybe with the release of the N73 in the US that will mean that TT will update their software.

Doesnt the N80 have the exact same version of the OS as the N73?

I've used the amAze software. It's alright. I'm in the process of doing a comparison between the three main free GPS java apps, Nav4All, amAze, and MGmaps. I expect to put it up this weekend.

Sounds cool, looking forward to it. I've haven't played much with the free options but knowing that you're a TomTom user it will be interested to see hwhere the main benefits are over the free options.
