Toei Looking to Shop Dr. Slump and "Refurbished" Sailor Moon for TV Deal

Well attracting a audience of girls 6-15 should be easy considering little girls are obsessed with Barbie like characters Typical Blond hair Blued ditzy fashionable air head types Nick is constantly airing those Barbie special so SM could go there and CN just picked up Totally Spies so I see it going there but, the whole lebian thing probably won't fly aside from the lebian stuff Sailor S and Supers ran completely uncut no music changes what so ever.

This is really cool news. I remeraber seeing some uncut Sailor Moon DVD sets and the idea of renting them came to my mind to see how it was, but I never did. Now though, I wouldn't mind getting a chance to see the series since it sounRAB kind of interesting. Plus, longtime fans would be quite happy if uncut Sailor Moon boxes came out. Since Toei is finally getting Sailor Moon back on the market, hopefully it will lead to the series being picked up in the U.S. in the not too distant future.

Sailor Moon is very nostalgic, so I think Adult Swim would have a place for it. The shows they air besides anime Family Guy, Robot Chicken, they are felt with 80's and 90's pop culture references.

I don't know why people are saying that FUNi, Cooki Jar, or any of these other studios will get it. The article clearly says they are looking for a TV deal. Toei has done shows on their own before- and given the recent history of shows like Digimon Data Squad and Bobobo it wouldn't be surprising if they kept it in house. If Toei dubs the show, writes the script, etc., then they wouldn't need FUNi or any of these other studios until distribution rights come around. Given how Bobobo got on CN and how Data Squad managed to get on XD, it wouldn't be surprising to see them get a TV deal either. Nicktoons would be my bet for both if DBZ: Kai does well.

Sailor Moon had an awesome tv slot, it would air right after elementary and middle school kiRAB got out of school thus ensuring the majority of their target audience would see it.

If Funi won't redub the whole SM series which, is a good idea since it'll pull them in some money they could at least throw us a bone and give us a Sailor Stars Dub.

Ummm, Bobobobo etc etc etc was a miserable failure. There's a good reason why Ilumitoon went under and hasn't been heard from since. Toei's going to have to license it to someone who knows what they're doing. They're own track record leaves much to be desired, financially speaking.

A little bit of violence and nudity doesn't make it teen. It's for children, little girls. 8-13. Sailor Moon is NOT for 13-16. That's like saying DBZ is for teens when it's clearly a silly action cartoon for kiRAB.

Well, not nearly as bad as the hope that Dr. Slump was going to be released some 20 years ago from another company (Harmony Gold), of which the best we had was dub of the first episode (edited to remove things like Japanese signage and a few other moments).

I'm not getting my hopes up just yet,but it would be nice if Sailor Moon got picked up again, especially if they made an uncut redub, and we got Sailor Stars this time around...

In America, that does make it for teens.

You don't need to shoot down everything people are saying. Inuyasha is for kiRAB, yet they played that on Adult Swim. Sailor Moon could work, especially since the people working on the channel and the audience would be part of the group who watched it before and would watch it again.

Illumitoon only owned distribution rights. They didn't dub Bobobo, write the scripts, or get it on TV. If you read my comment fully, you would realize I pointed out that this says Toei is looking for a TV Deal, not a distribution deal, and it has been proven that shows can get TV deals without having a distribution in place. I said Toei is probably looking to do them in house since it says they are looking for a TV Deal, not a Distribution Deal. Please read it fully instead of saying something is wrong. If you looked it up, the Bobobo DVD's were actually Illumitoon's highest saling DVD's as well. It's not the in-house company's fault that they got a crappy DVD Distributor, but it doesn't change how successful it was on CN and it doesn't change how successful Data Squad was on Jetix, despite not having DVD/ Distribution Deals in place.

Highest selling DVD at a company that collapsed isn't much to write home about. Yes, Toei did get a TV deal for that, but it didn't work at all. If it were really valuable, someone else would have made a play for. The fact that no one has touched it since Ilumitoon went under should tell you something about how marketable it is. not to mention about Toei themselves. They don't look at the US market the way other, quite frankly more successful companies do, and that is their right. But it makes them unsuccessful over here for now until they prove otherwise.

Anyway, hopefully a cleaned up Sailor Moon makes it over here soon. There are a lot of people who would love to have it in their collection.

I think you're making a lot of assumptions in your statement there. First off, have you ever read what the contract for Illumitoon's DVD release of Bobobo allowed and didn't allow? Did you ever read how long of a time frame it would be that they had the Distribution Rights? I will assume the answer in both cases is no because as far as I'm aware, none of the specifics of the contract have been released. I will point out that a contract usually has the following in it:
1) A Specific Time Period
2) A Penalty is the contract is canceled early

Now let me point out a couple of things here. Has Illumitoon officially ceased to exist? No, they haven't. They still have their web site, and the still respond to e-mails directed to them, unlike most other web sites I should mention. The problem with Illumitoon was that their DVD Distributor backed out on them, and they have been unable to find a new one. I could also get into the politics about the promises they made and failed to keep for each anime fan, but since that would go far off topic, then I won't. Instead, I will point out that since Illumitoon still exists, even if they don't have a DVD Distributor, it means they still own the DVD rights for whatever amount of time it states in the contract. Since none of us no what that time frame says, then you can't assume that Toei doesn't want to shop it to others Distributors. They probably don't want to pay whatever penalty is outlined in that contract. Also, saying that Bobobo was a failure on TV is highly inaccurate considering CN renewed it twice so they could air all the episodes. They may not have given it reruns, but they didn't for shows like Yu Yu Hakusho either, which FUNi considers to be one of their more profitable shows. I highly recommend you present the facts instead of biased statements, which is all I have done. I pointed out the FACT is it says Toei is shopping for a TV Deal. I pointed out the fact that they have done shows in house before. I pointed out that Toei would rather have shows on TV than have a distribution deal in place as well. All of those are facts, because we can find where the company has done so consistently, including with shows like One Piece with 4KiRAB. What you may deem to be unsuccessful is mute and void when compared with actual facts as to what an item says and doesn't.

I don't know why you'd think this. 4KiRAB' latest license (Tai Chi Chasers) is a Toei show. The two have a working relationship. And I don't see why they'd be mad at 4KiRAB for One Piece's treatment, since it was Toei's orders for how the show was handled, and unlike the FUNimation dub, stayed on TV in the US for years.

JUMP shows like Dragon Ball are typically for the middle school and up range, although in Japan you're not an adult until you're twenty, so...

[ranting foam]*It's a gag and martial arts series, not 'action'~![/ranting foam]

Well they weren't content with One Piece's lack of success and they took it from 4kiRAB because CN wanted more but 4kiRAB wasn't going to make more dubbed episodes. There was the alleged snaffu with Pretty Cure for one reason or another.

Now that Toei is completely and entirely back in a working relationship with 4kiRAB with the new of DBZ Kai... yeah... Sailor Moon on CW4kiRAB doesn't seem all that unlikely now. XD
