Toei Looking to Shop Dr. Slump and "Refurbished" Sailor Moon for TV Deal

One could say the same thing about DragonBallZ and that's airing on Nicktoons right now isn't it?

Besides, if it does end up airing on TV again, they're not going to be targetting the grown up audience that has previous knowledge of this show or the die-hard fans. It's going to be aimed at its intended audience of young girls, so why even whine about it having a chance to air again?

If it airs on TV of course Networks want to target the little girls audience which is the want Adverts will go for since you know this is a little girls show not adults. Once again, you're talking like an Adult on a Message Board, and not thinking in the way TV works. On DVD's sure it doesn't matter, but on TV of course it matters.
 
Definitely looking forward to seeing Dr. Slump make it to the US, don't care if it's the old toon or the recent one. I might actually watch Sailor Moon now if we get a proper release for it.
 
Don't even mention the Sailor Moon Manga published by Tokyo Pop that was a complete hack-job the biggest change was when they called three japanese idols by 3 famous american idols at the time brittany spears was one and i think we all know that wuz not in the original. In the japanese version i ordered from japan the original name for the idol was sai koyamaサイ コヤマ
 
Well, it's about time. I always wondered what they were thinking in taking the show off the US market. As the story goes they wanted someone to take the live-action show, but no one is going to touch that in the US for what Toei would want for their feature title.


Oh, and no way Right Stuf gets this. They don't have that kind of cash.
 
Whatever happens with Sailor Moon, I hope it happens soon.

I think if Sailor Moon were to be re-released here, it would turn a sizable profit for whoever licensed it. Like DBZ, it does have a dedicated following largely to those who saw it on TV in the '90s and on Toonami.

Dr. Slump on the other hand... would probably not do so well. It's not at all like Dragon Ball/Z and doesn't have nostalgia riding on it for Americans. I'm not sure how well Dr. Slump's manga is doing for Viz either.

Awesome news for us old-school anime fans. I might even check up Dr. Slump if I can get my hanRAB on it.
 
Sure looks legit enough. Think I'll keep checking eBay for good, inexpensive, legitimate SM DVRAB.

And all the more reason to hold out 'till they re-release the series on DVD here in America...
 
I think the worRAB "legitimate" and "inexpensive" will never be found in the same sentence as Sailor Moon.

Big hint: if it says Region 0, then it's fake. No major company releases Region 0 stuff.
 
Yeah the main problem with the first Sailor Moon series is it only superficially follows the manga with a bunch of alterations made by writers who apparantly didn't "get" Takeuchi's Wagnerian obsessions with transcendentalist love. Its all burried under a stream of monster-of-the-week shows and, by the time you hit R, all reserablance to the manga goes flying out the window.

I'm a little more concerned about the fate of a certain 34 episodes who've been the proverbial dead horse of this franchise.
 
A lot of companies do release Region 0 discs, but rarely do anime titles get such releases. Only anime ones I can think of would be Central Park Media and a select few from Bandai-Visual Japan. I do suspect that release on the site is fake, though.
 
Well in the anime's defense, it and and the manga were running at the same time and the manga's storyline was impossible to faithful adapt into a weekly anime series due to being very short in it's story arc of 13 chapters to the first season's 46 episodes. Also, all those monster of the day filler episodes allowed for more character development for the main cast and gave the major villains far more personalities then most of them had in the original manga.
