Toe nail partially ripped off

I was moving some server equipment over the weekend the equipment slipped and tore up the 1st half of my big toe nail. I've been bathing the foot in warm\hot water and epsom salt. I've also been putting on neosporin every day as well as Hydrogen Peroxide. The nail looks dead and is still pretty painful to the touch. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process of the nail falling off? Should I be doing else to take care of it? How long does it usually take for a new nail to start growing? Any help anyone can provide would be great!!!

When I injured a big toe nail, the outer end of it came loose. I didn't try to force it off. The growing part - the "moon" end - eventually pushed the old nail off. I just kept the dead part trimmed very short until the live part grew enough to completely push it completely off. By that time, the new one covered about half of the nail bed, and the skin was hardened enough not to be tender at all.

Of course, you could see a podiatrist. (You should anyway, if there is any sign of infection in that nail.) He may try to convince you to let him pull it off. That choice is yours.
