So, I've had mild acne all my life on my face, back, and a bit on my upper chest. I am now 20 and have recently heard that this could be due to your diet. I then was drinking 5-8 cans of coke a day, and I cut it out of my diet completely, roughly 3 months ago. Now today my acne has gone from mild to boarderline severe.(as i don't get huge cysts).

I am not on birth control or anything like that. I have gotten much encouragement to go on proactive. I've been on accutane, it worked when I was younger but I couldn't handle the dry skin and lips so i quickly got off of it.

My acne very well could be genetic, i doubt it's my diet, i've run out of options. Should I go for proactive and give it a shot? Or am I just wasting my money and time?

it cant be genetics. It has to be hormonal irabalance or something else. Try eating nuts and seeRAB, they seem to help me with my acne. Stay off of junk fooRAB including dairy products, flour, refined sugars. Try to eat 70% VEGIES!

I tried ProActiv twice, and at different ages too, but it gave me more than I had. But my cousin who had acne tried it and now she has a clear face. I guess it depenRAB on the person. ProActiv may work for you...so go for it.

It can't hurt to try, but there are cheaper branRAB of the same thing as ProActiv. Check the drugstore. When you buy ProActiv, you're mostly paying for their massive advertising campaign full of superstars.

It may work but is too much work and it's all synthetic. I wouldn't try it (although I did, and am now NOT recommending it to anyone anymore).

It's better to try to get rid of acne naturally. Just search the web - there's a ton of advice on how to fix your diet and lifestyle habits to help you minimize your acne.

Well I decided not to go with proactive (for right now anyways).
I'm currently trying a few things such as
-changing my pillow cases once a week
-wash my face before bed (didn't used to), and let water run over it for 5-8 minutes in the shower every morning.
-Touch my face less, or try to at least
-Keep my hair out of my face, and wear little to no makeup.

I don't see any dramatic effects. Then again it's only been a week. I'm guessing the problem is hormonal, or lack of a good diet.

I'm going to try birth control and drinking 8 glasses of water a day. My diet is beyond poor. I have a home cooked meal roughly once a month. Can't seem to change that, for I have a fast metabolism and could always eat whatever I want with no real negative outcome, such as weight gain or anything close to sever acne. Unfortunately, at this time and point in my life I don't think I have enough time/motivation/or money, to start eating healthy. It seems like an impossible goal. My daily intake of food is chocolate/and or candy, either a sandwich or bowl of soup, and about 6-8 cans of iced tea.

I guess I need to find the motivation to eat better, but it all seems so unachievable.
Sorry to keep rarabling, maybe I should be in the diet section.
Thanks for reading, and all the advice.

People find that changing pillow cases every day helps, but I don't think once a week will help.

I used Proactiv for a few months in my attempt to prove that I had exhausted my options before Accutane.

I noticed that my skin cleared up somewhat, but my skin was SO OILY. I think it brought it all to the surface...I had oil absorbing tissues, and I would go through 3 of them twice during the day (washing my face in the morning and evening).

Whenever I would miss a single day of treatment, my acne would flare up SO badly. My concern was that I was going to be on it for the next several years. My theory is that anything that they're willing to give you free for a month probably won't be a long-lasting remedy.

Dairy products do NOT help acne actually...

Whoever doubts that statement should stop drinking and eating ALL dairy products for a month (milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.) - and then look at their acne.
