People are raised to believe in something like God or religion, and then it becomes a fixed belief. So, no matter HOW much you hear reaons for the contrary, you angrily defend it, because it's now a fixed belief.
Say you were raised to believe in giant invisible UFOs over every major city, and aliens used chemicals to control peoples brains, and say your parents showed you countless of books and texts and evidence PROOVING it was real. Now as an adult, you try and tell everybody about these aliens, but you INSIST it's the truth, using the books that have no source, contradict each other,(http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html) , have horrible scenes of torture and rape, and make utterly no sense at all. They try and tell you it's not a real book, but you just keep saying "you're taking it out of context", not realizing that it's very possible you're wrong, and you're belief doesn't guarantee that your god exists.
You have to understand....if the bible truly isn't factual, then every argument in it;s defense is false? IF athiests are indeed right, then saying "god is real because you cant understand him" doesn't actually mean anything. Surely you can see why it's possible that you're defending something that isn't real? Like the 4 billion + non christians?
