I always wanted to study law but in various stages of my life something went wrong. I didn’t do greatly on my A levels (EEA- but I have re taken one since) due to family difficulties and as a result I didn’t go to a " red brick" university. Because at that stage I didn’t think I could cope with doing pure law I completed a degree in Criminology with Law as its minor. I found my lost passion for legal studies whilst at university and I finished with a high 2.1. Many lectures believed that I should continue my education towards law but unfortunately I couldn’t afford to do a legal conversion course (CPE or GDL). As I wasn’t really to completely finish my education at this stage I decided to complete the PGCE (Postgraduate teaching certificate) specialising in Business/Law and Criminology. Unfortunately on successful completion of this course I could not find any full time teaching post ( being in competition with fully qualified lawyers who want to teach on the side) Currently I am working as a Teaching Assistant at a primary school and I am feeling very unfulfilled. I should also mention that throughout my both degrees I have work and volunteer in various legal institutions (working at prisons and at solicitors office) and only recently due to the work at the school I had to stop this. I really don’t know what to do my options are
a) Forget about the dream that I had and just continue working in the primary school...maybe eventually re qualify as a primary school teacher
b) Take a chance for the last time, re take my A levels, take a loan out and do the legal conversion course.
But even if I take the second option what are my chances in having a successful legal career? Please help
Thank you
