TO ANYONE WHO LIVED/BIKED IN MONTREAL !!! HELP ME HELP YOU !! lol xD?

(I Knw I wrote ALOT but plz plz plz plz i beg you, try to help me im kinda lost and terrified)

(or if the competitive type of person, I dare you to answer :P)

Sooooo Im moving to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 7 months, With my 2 bestfriends, were all uni. students, 2 of us at McGill and one at Concordia.
Anyways.....
i was looking up rentals sites to see approx. how much it would cost to rent an appartment, But there system is soo effin* wierd lol
they come up with stuff such as (5.5 - 1800 CAD), then me usually confused and not understanding anything,,
so would some one please explain..
beside that iud just post what i want and would yall give me what i should expect :) tht would be soo apprciated

soooo ... were pretty spoiled but nt tht much lol,
Basiclly a place 15 min walk from downtown (and i mean 15 mins, not to go there n be surprised by it being a 2 hour hike, plz.. )
A 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lil' living room lol,
also Prefreably a balcony but dont mind if there arnt, oh the bedrooms have to be kinda' spacious too, like 6 by 5 meters.
somewhere where at 4 am the nightclubs wont blast there beats in the appartment,
and all the other requests are the usual's, next to the transportation system, next to drugstores, groceries, has central air conditioning.
I dont expect the price to include internet, T.V., telephone.
And oh hydro and heating expenses ppl .....
And it would by cool if it was a high rise :)
sooo try to approx the price, i know reality is a kick in the face and iam ready :)

Also iam planning to buy a motorcycle there :)
should i dream on because iud die by the bad drivers and potholes,
or is it ok and you can acculy still enjoy sport bike riding (plz god let it be) ??

Anything rather than that would be general advice on anything that i have asked :)

Hey, I'm not sure if I can answer all of your questions but I'll try! To start, Montreal does have a 'weird' way of describing the size of apartments. Instead of listing by the number of bedrooms we list by the number of rooms (the ".5" being a bathroom). So when you are seeing 5.5 for 1800 it really means 5 rooms and a bathroom, so most probably 3 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. But it varies place to place. It's possible the 5 rooms would be 2 bedrooms with the 3rd being a laundry room, or an office, or that type of thing. You'd really have to ask or go check it out yourself.
As for the type of place you are describing, I reeeeeally don't think you are going to find a place like that so close to downtown! Downtown apartments, and apartments in the vicinity of downtown tend to be smaller (there's NO way you'd get a bedroom 5x6meters!), and *extremely* rare to find a place with 2 bathrooms! Also, Montreal apartments don't usually have central air conditioning unless it's in a high rise apartment complex. And if it's a high rise apartment that you're looking for, prepare for insane insane parking fees if you need a space for your motorcycle. And there's NO way you could leave it outside or anything. I'm sure there's a way to keep a motorcycle if you really really wanted one, but it's honestly not practical at all for a Montreal climate in my opinion. You'd only be able to use it a few months a year, plus if you are planning to live so close to downtown there is really no reason to need one. But like I said, I'm totally sure that there's a way to have one if you really wanted one, if you have the money especially.
So about the apartment you are looking for, I would say you would have to look a bit outside downtown, to maybe the Plateau area or to the Atwater area. It also really depends on your budget. I would say to be realistic if you wanted a 5.5 in the Plateau, no air conditioning, nothing including, you'd be looking at the 1200-2000 range. If you are on more of a budget I would suggest the Atwater area. I have a 3 bedroom apartment in an old converted building (so obviously no air conditioning, it's a bit drafty, but the rooms are big and interesting looking) for 1000/month, nothing including. It's about a 15min walk from Concordia.
So, ya, not to be the bearer of bad news, but like you said reality is a bit of a kick in the face, I guess! I think you are expecting WAY too much from a downtown apartment, *especially* being students, unless your parents are absolutely ridiculously loaded. Montreal is a really fun, diverse city with a lot of character. Don't be afraid to look at some really cool converted lofts, or if really high quality directly downtown places are more your thing be cool with getting a small place. You have to kinda pick which characteristics would be most important to you (location/quality/tiny or large/older building/short walk away or if you don't mind going further from downtown on a metro line you could get a place that is larger/quality/longer distance from downtown). Anyways, Im not sure if that helped but I hope it does! I went to McGill and I know you'll have a great time in Montreal. Montreal has something for everyone :)
