Tmobile Web vs. Blackberry Internet

Hello all. I know this question has been asked but because of how it is always phrased I have never seen a REAL answer. I currently have the 8100 with the $5.99 unlimited Tmobile Web feature. Yes it does exist. Yes I have it. The catch is you can't have it on your account and also have the Blackberry Service feature which is free and gives you access to push e-mail. I don't need the e-mail so I skip that part. I can go to nearly any website via my wap browser, select options, and scroll up and select Desktop view. The page is then displayed just like it would be on my desktop and the trackball is used as a pointer. Of course there is no flash and certain script functions are not allowed. I have played around in my local Tmobile store with the curve that was connecting using WI-FI. There was no difference, as far as I could tell, between that and what I currently have (other than speed). Herein lies my question. I always assumed the $19.95 Blackberry Internet feature offered "full" web browsing, but now with the release of Skyfire for Windows Mobile I see that is not the case. I understand that the Blackberry Browser would still lack flash content and some media rich website functionality. Given that I can view most all websites via my wap browser in desktop view mode with my current $5.99 wap plan, what would be the advantage to me in purchasing the more expensive data plan?
Please no "that plan doesn't exist" or "if tmobile realizes you have that on your BB" because it does exist, I do have it, and after explaining to the blackberry rep at tmobile what i wanted to do he set it up that way.
Surely there is some web browsing advantage......

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ they now have a fix so it may not last for much longer it is known right now but there was an update saying that people who have it now will have browsing unavail soon

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ The full data plan won't charge you for using any amount of data. The TMobile web plan will cost you per KB of data you use. Also I don't think you would be able to use any of the data based messengers because these go thru RIM's servers to connect. Also no service books for 3rd party applications which require these to work.

Yes that plan does exist. It's been around for years. I remember having it on my nokia 3595 in like 2003, and on my older phone.

Yeah there are a few negatives about having the 5.99$ plan. One T-Mobile is actually been in the process of blocking all ports so people won't have access to the web using a blackberry/windows device with the 5.99$ or they'll take it off your account. That's if they catch on to it, but with the millions of customers they have it'll be hard to catch everyone. Also with the 5.99$ plan you won't have proper access to email (that's a given), bb messenger. Also, the new devices only access instant messenger services through data and not through sms, so if you don't have the 20$ plan you won't have access to that or even mms. So they are setting it up to where you are going to be a "fish out of water" so to speak. The web browsing is going to be similiar, and with the addition of the desktop view has made your experience a little more enjoyable. However, there maybe some sites not accessible from your device. For the most part you'll enjoy the same browsing capabilities. It's mainly the other stuff you won't have access to especially when it comes to upgrading to any of the newer devices that we currently have and will be launching in the very near future. Hope that gives you a little more information

nope. $5.99 plan is unlimited and i have had it for over a year. and as for messengers, i can use the tmobile mms fine because it goes through the wap gateway anyway. i am just wondering is there anymore content available with the $19.95 plan than what i have now.

thanks johnny. you're my hero. so i will ride it out with this plan till i get blocked and then start paying $20 for the same thing.
thanks for the informed answer.

The main differenece lies in the T-Mobile Web only allows access to the sites and ports allowed by the WAP browser and the ports that T-Mobile allows. The total internet plan has very few (if any) blocked ports, and allows access to other browsers such as Opera (mini or mobile). I believe it also allows wifi access @ the Hotspots also. I have a pearl, and I have a Dash, and I switch off between the two. I have the blackberry data plan (unlimited) and have no issues with the dash, or with any ports being blocked. With the blackberry browser, I don't think the emulator modes (IE) will work on the t-mobile web.

I have been a customer with T-Mobile since 2001 when they were Voicestream. Lately I have been debating about leaving their service for Helio. Mainly because the phones I am currently interested in upgrading to are too expensive, even with the upgrade discount. Also after reading thru the thread, I really don't want to have to add another charge to my phone to use the Blackberry Curve or T-Mobile Dash ($19.95). Not to mention I have to add that charge twice since there are two phones on my family plan. If I go with Helio, I can get their Ocean for $199 each (since I have two people on my plan) and it the monthly service will be $170. Yes, I believe the monthly charge is a bit hefty but it comes with 2500 mins and unlimited everything (text, video msg, pic msg, internet access, myspace chat / AIM, etc). For T-Mobile I can paying roughly $70-$75 / month for a family plain that has 500 mins. This amount include $4.99 & $2.99 plans for 400 anything messages (the lesser charge was when I originally added my husband, it never went up because I never changed it). The thing is I think T-Mobile will still be cheaper with their plans even though their phones are more expensive.

I would like to see if T-Mobile will give me a deal for the Curve & Dash since I have been with them for so long. I really never asked for a deal from them before and I have only upgraded my phone a few times.

Do you think I will have any luck bargaining with T-Mobile for a deal on the smartphones or do you think it would be wiser to simply go with Helio?

hi - I currently use a nokia e61i and am considering switching to the curve. I have the web 5.99 plan and it does everything I need - pop email, web browsing via opera and opera mini, google maps, gmail. the only content that I can not view is flash, which is a restriction of the phone and browser, not t-mo data service. there are no additional data charges. it is unlimited.
I've had this phone and plan for less than a year, long after people were saying that t-mo was closing the loopholes. I did have to do some sleight of hand to get signed up for t-mo web since I'm using an unbranded phone. I think I added it to the other phone, then switched which line the phones were attached to or something. it took 1 min and was no problem.
I have no need for push email and really only need the smartphone for the pda aspects, sync-able calendar, contacts. email and web are gravy (although it would be hard to give them up at this point, esp g maps).

Thanks for posting this info mattweldon - it was the main bit of info i needed before making the switch.

If the 5.99 works, you are lucky, But once it quits working there is not a TMO rep in the world that can make it start again. And yes the engineers are pluging the loop holes as quick as they can. People with the Curve can browse on WIFI with out the plan, but browsing on EGDE with out the plan will not last long. Sorry but the 5.99 T-zones should not give access to RIMs data service.
