Tmobile & Video Messaging: Help Solve The Confusion

I decided to create this thread in hopes of clearing up the confusion and maybe finally finding a few solid answer.

About 6-8 months back I reported on Tmobile's option for video msg conversion for incoming (came about due to compatibility issues with pearl handset) to allow bb's to receive video msgs. Basically it turned the vid msg into a gif and attached a wav of the audio from the footage. Before then if you got a video msg you would just get the link asking you to visit tmobilepictures.com.

Has anyone been able to receive a vid msg through their pearl/curve/8800 through MMS (not browser) and what happens for you? If anyone can test, it would be appreciated. Please be sure to list what phone model you have and what service it was sent from.

tmo does the conversion. it's pretty bad. I had the option cut off 2 weeks after testing, but it somehow became reenabled and I hate it.

so what happens when you receive vid msgs to your handset via mms?

well this morning I sat with a very helpful tmo rep who actually went as far to borrow her supervisor's curve and sent a video clip from a Dash to my handset and the sup's curve. both had the same result: a .gif and an attached .wav. She was in shock as she did not know video msgs were not received on the Curve (or Pearl) as video files. I explained to her when I first got the Pearl last year the option being given to me as a "feature we're testing" and how I disliked it and had it removed a few weeks later only to find it came back and this time permanently and that no tmo reps seemed to know what I was talking about.

Anyway, it seems this has become their solution to video messaging rather than the link leading to tmobilepictures.com and then downloading the video to handset. IMO, they should just have the videos sent to tmobilepictures and then provide a hotlink to the file in the received MMS box so when you click it, it would open bbb, start downloading and poof, watching video in your open player.

I'm going to test further with a few AT&T customers to see if they've implemented something similar or if they just get a message advicing them to go to AT&T's picture site to view.

thanks for posting your result.

same happened on my 8700, 8100 and now 8320.

even if the tmo reps don't know about it, it definitely is being converted server side.

So far I've had success from revueicing video from a samsung t629. Its a little choppy but it plays. No problem at all. I've received video via Bluetooth from a pebl and a rizr. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

yeah the only luck i've had is from a samsung t629...i've tried from a samsung t809, motorola pebl, motorola rizr, and thats really about it. I'll look into it a little more. try a few things tomorrow when i go to work.

what do you mean by that exactly? please walk through the steps of what happened when you sent from t629 and received it on your Curve. in the MMS window how was it displayed? did it request for you to open in the bb player? were you able to succesfully save it to your memory card as a video file? etc.

ut was sent to my phone and when I opened it it played in screen I didn't have to open anything else. Its a little choppy like looking at a webcam.and I could save it ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

Update. I'm at work right now and I sent a video in mms form to my pearl running the .107 software. And I tried it on the samsung beat. Samsung blast. Samsung t629. Nokia 5300. Nokia 6133. Motorola razr2. And all success. via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
