TMobile Unlock Request

I sent a unlock request to TMO 2 days ago, after 24 hours I received an email saying my request was being processed and this morning I received and email with my unlock code and the following instructions:

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Blackberry 7000 Series.

NOTE: If you receive an error message while performing the instructions below, stop. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. Verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and submit a new request. You have 10 attempts to enter the correct code.

To Unlock:
1. On the Home screen, click the Tools icon. The Options screen appears.

2. In the tools screen, select the Settings icon.

3. Scroll to SIM Card and select it. You should see the phone number and the SIM ID number.

4. Type 'mepd' to display the first five levels of SIM locking. T-Mobile uses network locking so the Network should display Active. All other states should display Disabled

Please note: For the Blackberry 7100t you will hit the "P" twice when entering the 'mepd' and 'mep2' for steps 4 & 5.

5. Type 'mep2' to display the dialog box asking for the unlock code (Press the Alt + 2 key to get the number 2)

6. Input the SIM Unlock code (it will be 16 digits long)

7. Press ENTER and reboot handheld.

It took me about 1 1/2 minutes to follow the steps and input the unlock code. It stated code accepted then the Network displayed Inactive. My 7290 BB is officially unlocked, boy that was easy and I didn't have to dish out any money. Thanks TMO!

I'm no expert but I would think not. This code is recognized by the device and is preset so a network connection does not seem like it would be necessary to unlock a device. From my understanding there is one unique unlock code for each device. The sim card is not being unlocked the the network lock or restriction is being removed from the device to make it available to other networks.

I'm a computer geek trying to learn as much as I can so I can become a BB Guru! Hope this information is accurate and helpful.

Great - I sent in my request for an unlock code today (5/25). Once I receive it, I'll report back with my results.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I think with TMO you have to be with them for a period of time...not sure the length though...other than that you request the unlock code when you get it you can call and ask to speak to a bb speacilist and they will walk you through the unlock sequence..at least that was what I did...I did not know what I was doing...LOL....but they helped...

Here are the restrictions:

1. Active account for at least 90 days, cancelled account less than 90 days. At least 90 days of continuous active monthly service. The account must not be delinquent or in write off with an outstanding balance.
2. Only one sim unlock code per active line of service.
3. The name on the request must be listed on the account as the billed party name, authorized user, or contact name.

And to answer the question about leaving the sim card in while unlocking the phone...I left my SIM card in and the unlock process went flawlessly. But I was only able to get one code since my SIM card is in the 7105t.
