When is T-mobile USA going to start their 3G service? I remember they announced back in October of 2006 that they were already halfway done with NY City and they would be live in mid 2007.

On a related note, any word on when a 3G blackberry will be coming out? I'll be happy with the wifi version coming in September, but ultimately they need to move on to 3G speeds.

Thanks for any info anyone has.

There's been no new press releases or any blog chatter about it in quite a while. I'm ready for it now! Of course, we may not see any cool 3G phones from TMO for a while yet.

That seems like a cruel joke 8830 with wi-fi for TMO supposedly being released around September and now TMO might be upgrading to 3G around the same time?? What the hell is up with that?

TMO and BB need to learn to COORDINATE a little better

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~dude I'm just dying for a 3g blackberry on att... I love my 8300 but would love it even more if it had 3g on it

I doubt Tmo would roll out their 3G with a Blackberry leading the charge. Of course, that's what everyone here would want, but remember, we're different, we're power users. I can pretty much guarantee it will be some run-of-the-mill Nokia or Motorola flip/camera phones where the 3G doesn't make them that much better. Just look at what VZW/Sprint/and ATT are pushing. "Oh look, you can view tiny videos on this thing, and it's flaming fast". Yeah, you can get smartphones with 3G, but that's not the majority of the market. I can't for the life of me understand why AT&T doesn't have a HSDPA Blackberry yet, but that's all on RIM at this point. When Tmo rolls out the 3G, expect people like us to be using unlocked AT&T phones on the network.

I agree!!!!! the only problem, if you do a little reading, you will find that the frequencies that T-mobile US purchased for its UMTS (3G) deployment are different than every other carrier and every other contry. Untill hardware manf. start making devices that are world wide and multi-carrier, don't expect to be able to use a Cingular/AT&T unlocked 3G phone on the T-mobile US network...Although the same technology, UMTS/HSDPA (WCDMA), different frequencies.

From my understanding from reading press releases (none of my reps can tell me anything on 3G) T-Mobile will be launching 3G sometime mid 2008 nationally (not in select markets like at&t did) on the 1700 frequency. From my understanding they want this to launch everywhere at the same time and actually work.

I agree. I also read somewhere that someone from Tmo US said they wanted to wait to complete deployment until all the other carriers have worked out the bugs......

If anyone is interested in trying to push some buttons and try to get Tmo to talk, I have a number for a corporate guy out there. as long as this number doesn't get plastered all over forums, I will give it out to 1 or 2 people so they can try to get some info out of him.
