TMO Upgrade Blues

Alright, finally decided after days of deliberation that I would not jump ship and stay with TMO. I have an 8100 Pearl and I wanted wifi so I can tap into my home network and get some faster speeds. I also wanted a full qwerty keyboard. I thought about moving to a Bold but did not want ATT since I'm not convinced I will get good reception where I am. I could grab a Storm on Friday but it would mean switching to Verizon and sucking up the termination fee from TMO.

So I went down to the TMO store today and actually had to drive to three different ones before I found one that had phones and whose system was up and operating. (I hate mall kiosks) Anyway, I was informed that it would cost $387 plus tax to upgrade to a Curve. I was disgusted to hear this. I've been a loyal TMO customer for 6 years now and when I want to go a do an upgrade this is the best they can do? I pay my bill on time every month and have never been late...

So, I'm thinking seriously about jumping ship, swallowing the $200 fee and spending $200 at Verizon for the Storm. If I'm going to spend $400 bucks I ought to be getting the latest and greatest device....seems a shame that TMO would lose a good customer over this.

Or I could sit tight and wait another 7 months for my TMO contract to become mature and maybe by then they will have a spiffy new touch screen phone. I'm bummed though because I wanted a new toy this week.

Call customer service, and try back until you get the answer you want. I had the same thing happen - loyal long time customer, good payment history, etc. I had a year and half left on my contract and I wanted a Curve. Called cs and they wanted to charge me almost $400 for it. Called back a couple of days later and got it for $149 with the 2 year extension.

Check on MyTmobile. There is a section there that will show you what discounts you qualify for. I think it's called "upgrade my phone." It's difficult to believe that you wouldn't qualify for a discount if you have not upgraded before. I have qualified for partial discounts after just 6 months from the last upgrade. This, of course, is with the 2 year extension.

yeah you can get a cheaper price with a contract extension. make sure to go to a real t-mobile store too. last year around this time i bought one curve and got one free with a 2 year plan....pretty good i think

Thanks so much for that tip! I just called and they will sell me a Curve for the $99 plus a new two year contract. But I was able to lower my minutes to the lower tier plan since I'll have the wifi unlimited calls so I think I'll make out pretty well for now. The new Curve will be here next week. Guess they decided they want to keep me as a customer!

man that's awesome scooter!!
glad they were willing to work with you on this!!

your gonna love your new curve!
when I got mine in I almost **** my pants I was so happy!!!!

So ya was in the same boat as you, now I got my curve and I'm a happy boy. I don't go to any store or kiosks any more I deal with t-mo directly and their very accommodating. I'm a life-er with them now ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
