TMO UMA problems with airport extreme....

Got my TMO 8320 and love the phone. Used the UMA Homespot @ home service this morning at a starbucks. Worked great...

Now tried to connect to my mac setup via the airport extreme router and it connects for data but no voice as calls cannot go through. Changed the WEP key on the router and still getting a yellow checkmark on my 8320 Wi-Fi settings.

I've read via a few different forums that the airport extreme doesn't support some settings for the UMA to work. Am I right here or have people here gotten it to work with voice calls.

I've also read that i need to purchase the TMO router if the airport setup doesn't work... so how does that connection work? Currently I have my cable modem feeding the airport extreme and it funnels the connection there. Can I connect 2 routers to one setup?

You don't need the T-Mobile router, I have a Linksys WRT54G v.8 and WiFi and UMA are working great. Calls and data are flawless.

I know one thing that needs to be enabled on your router is ipsec, it would be under the VPN settings in the router.

Edit-I am using WPA security on my Linksys.

i'm having the same exact issue and have been fruitlessly trying to get in touch w/ T-mo Tier 3 support. When I spoke to them briefly on Friday, they said that ports 500, 4500 and IPSec Passthru need to be open/enabled but when I went into the Aiport Admin utility, I found several port selections and am baffled which to select. Anyone know a step-by-step on this?

I really like this phone but obviously, some of us assumed we could use any g/n compatable router that we have invested in. I guess we are seeing what happens when we assume too much.

agree... love the phone and UMA service when i'm at a sbux, but seems like there's an easy way to go with the airport extreme vs buying a linksys and going w/ 2 routers. arghhhh

First off, I spent an hour or so on the phone with Tmo cust service yesterday. there are a few bugs. Try going to connection manager, and unchecking wifi - wait until the wifi icon on the homescreen (in the background) goes away, then recheck the wifi checkbox.

That should reconnect you to UMA. I had to take the battery out for a minute after the first time I did this, but after that, the uncheck/recheck works to reconnect me to UMA. Annoying for sure, but not unbearable - though, it doesn't keep the UMA connection very long. I have 1500 minutes, so I'm not terribly concerned. But, definitely not working as advertised.

Also, I just happened to go to http://mobile.blackberry.com on my device - and the first thing there is a tech note on "hey, my UMA is not working" - there are other problems outlined in that note - check it out.

Ok, finally got the Adv. tech. support guy...a very nice chap, btw...and he basically said that the UMA may just not work w/ the Airport router. He suggested that a possible daisy chain might work. So, brought the ethernet to the WAN port of the T-mobile-supplies router (D-Link), popped another cat 5 cable from the D'Link to the airport (rebooted the cable modem, routers, etc) and PRESTO it worked! UMA and Wifi... Now, the only problem is my Airport is sending out a signal, working as a print server but...unavailable to my other wireless computers... I guess that's it. It just won't work for all of us.

Interesting thing was the T-mo rep said he thinks there's only about 4000 H@H customers nationwide.

I updated my airport extreme's firmware last night to version 7.3.1. After doing so, I tested receiving and making calls on my Blackberry curve running 4.2.2.180 with T-Mobile. My calls were no longer dropped after a couple of seconds.
