I have a VZ FIOS can I connect a TMO Linksys router to VZ FIOS wireless modem/router without wiring the TMO router to the FIOS modem?

Thx

You can (assuming the TMO router is wireless), but here is the thing.

You need to be able to take advantage of a technology called WDS (Wireless Distribution System) to connect access points (FIOS ~ TMO Linksys).

Linksys hardware has the capability of using WDS, however, the firmware does not in most cases. A simple cure for this is flashing the firmware with aftermarket software (your router will then use a different operating system and will be almost infinitely configurable).

Go to http://www.dd-wrt.com and check out their firmware that is open source and completely free. It is a very reliable and intuitive peice of software. The hurdle for you is that at some point, Linksys removed an amount of available RAM for the router (I think from 6mb to 2mb or something like that) and removed the functionality of flashing aftermarket firmware.

The documentation on there will guide you to selecting the correct version of software to match your hardware specs and give you details (albeit with a "at your own risk" disclaimer) along with instructions on how to go about it.

If you are able to do a successful firmware flash, setting up WDS on your TMO router will be as easy as connecting your computer through a wireless gateway with the help of your Admin panel (default at http://192.168.0.1) through the router's gateway.

Pin me if I can be of any more assistance.

oh, you know what? i completely did not read the post.
I missed the part about not directly connecting the two.

Then yes your only option is flashing it. But be warned. I have done this with a linksys router and the fios router and it is tempremental at best. It allows me to directly connect devices via ethernet into the linksys, but it doesn't actually extend my range like i thought it would. There is something i probably didn't do right. Furthermore, FIOS router gets confused sometimes with assigning IP addesses to the devices attached to the linksys router. I occasionally get the conflicting IP addresses problem. and the devices on the linksys occasionally have difficulty connecting.

If you explain further what your intentions are with the router then maybe we can assist you further.

Then it seems a matter of something simple not being done, maybe disabling DHCP and setting static IPs?

As far as increasing range, that's a matter of increasing output from the router (also configurable through DD-WRT) and/or changing TX/RX antennaes to high gain models or even signal amplifiers.

Once the WDS is successfully set up, range is a matter of manipulating your environment, antennas and transmit power (from amplifiers, computers, etc)

Yea I have tried messing around with DHCP and stuff all to the same rsult. And I am too lazy to rweally get it going. It works...... Most of the time~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

Humm will TMO router connect to FIOS wireless modem via wireless? or the TMO router has to be plugged in to FIOS wireless modem?
