I'm having a hard time distinguishing between the @home service that is for UMA calling and the new @home service which is a home phone service... or are they the same? I'm soo confused. Any ides?

Basically the one and the same. The plans are the same, but I believe you can keep your Landline number for the home service.

Other than keeping your number from you home line, I don't see a difference in the plans.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~they have change the name of hotspot @home to hotspot calling which is the UMA calling. Tmobile @home is the new voip calling for a landline.

Basically T-Mobile has had a few different names they have called these services. Now they have two different services, one is for unlimited Wifi calling on a cell phone and the other is for a home phone.

The unlimited wifi calling on a cell phone is called unlimited hot spot calling. In order to get this service you would have to have a hotspot enabled device (Pearl 2) and you would have to have internet at home. You would have a regular calling plan and add an additional feature to your plan that would allow you to have unlimited calling when you are using an internet connection.

The newer service that T-Mobile is doing now is called T-Mobile at home and this is the same thing but on a land line phone. Basically you have to already have on line of service (cell) with T-Mobile and then you can add another line to your account for $10 more and use a land line phone with your internet connection. To do this, you would need any standard touch tone landline phone and you would HAVE to get a special router for this service to work. The router is different than any other router because it has a spot for a sim card. This is how the phone works since you can't put a sim card in the landline phone.

Technically the phone number would be a cell phone number but you are able to port your landline number to T-mobile to use for your service just like you could port your landline on to a cell phone.

If you already have a line of serivce that you would want to use as a home phone you can port the cell phone number to the landline as long as you have at least one T-mobile cell phone.

If you have any other questions about how this works, please let me know! ([email protected])

good answer, the new tmobile @ home service is amazing. instead of paying for a landline (40$ and up mnthly) you can bring your landline to us and you'll pay 10$ for ulimited calling @home. requirements are wireless internet. and you would need to purchase our router which is 50$ and you have the option of using your landline phone or purchase one of our vtech phones 60$

I took the plunge and have ordered the new @Home (landline replacement) service...$10 minus my 14% discount...sweet! I will post a review when I get it up and running.

a quick review of @Home (landline) service:

I must admit I was a bit concerned about how well, @Home would work. I mean, I know the problems that VOIP has had in the past. After chatting with jonnyxedge (should that be johnnyxEDGE?) I decided to try it out. For the most part it works great. I did run into one MAJOR problem.

I got my router shipped to me in only 2 days time. It took about 6 days for my home number to port over to TMO.

I already have a Linkys router so I tried to set it up the way it said to in the quick setup guide (@Home router plugged into old router. PC plugged into @Home. My phone worked great...but...my bit torrent client (Azureus/Vuze) would no longer connect. I hooked up my PC and the @Home both behind my other router and Azureues connects fine and the phone works....However...If I am downloading or uploading ANYTHING and I am on the phone...I can hear others fine but to them I sound broken and choppy. My cable modem speed is 1.5 down/ 256k up. I asked several TMO reps if this speed would effect things and they said it would not As soon as I stop bit torrent transfers all is fine. As I understand it the @Home router is supposed to optimize voice traffic over data. Since currently it's behind my other router I am guessing it can't do that?

UPDATE: I got port forwarding working for Azureus on the @Home router. I still get awful voice quality when Bittorents are downloading/uploading. I was using 10% of my upload speed...thusly 25k up. I tried making this only 10k and it helped a little...but it's still not the same as it's not transferring So it torrents only at night for me. I tried sending some big pics via gmail and did not have any problems...any ideas folks?

I just ordered my router from T-Mobile. I'm hoping I don't have any issues like you have. My internet provider is COX (Broadband Cable) and I also already use a wireless router. I don't download a lot of stuff, but my son plays on-line video intensive games, so I'm hoping that won't be a problem. I can access upto 3 seperate IP addresses and I have a switch, but don't know if that would help because it all goes through the same modem. I stopped using the switch some time ago though, as I don't need a second or third IP.

Guess we'll see how it goes, but I'm pretty pumped knowing that I'm going to save at least $30 a month in phone bills.

My problem is bittorents I was downloading/uploaduing were throttling my router. One thing I did to fix the problem was to tell my bittorent client to do was not to use more than 150 conccurent connections at once (it was set to 250). The other thing is on my tmo router, I set QoS so that the port used by my torrents so it is lower priority than anything else. If I knew the ports that @Home used I would give those higher priority. In your case this would apply your main home router.

hello, I have several questions. can you port a toll free number to this service or the TMobile cellular phones? Also what are the specific requirements of the router, what ports need to be forwarded to this box and what is the bandwidth requirements up and down? Also if the internet goes down how is the number handled by TMobile? Will the phone number be set to automatically be forwarded to a predetermined number? Will the call go to a voicemail box? Or will it just ring?

Can the line be used for data or modem transfer?

Idont know about the porting of the toll free number, but as for your other questions...
If you are down, all your calls go straight to voicemail (you could setup conditional call fwd to another phone number other than voicemail, I think. No modem or fax. As for bandwidth...I have asked several techs and they will only say "broadband". Not sure what specific ports need fwding. The tmo route itself is ready to go (it also takes a sim card inside of it to make the calls).
