It looks as if Agent Bishop might find himself out of a job or at least out of funding. When the President is in New York City, the Turtles are out watching the motorcade when they find themselves right in the middle of a new alien invasion! What the shell?!
______________
Nobody made the talkback earlier, so I hope this is good enough for whoever wants to discuss the episode.
If Bishop turns out to be an alien or monster I'm going to scream. They already turned Shredder into an alien, can't Bishop just be human who tampered with his own DNA to give him increased strength and agility? His skin starting to burst has gotten me a bit worried.
Otherwise this episode was fairly average. I may have liked it better but the last 5 episodes in a row were all excellent episodes, so it made this one look slightly worse. 5 excellent episodes and one average episode in a row is a pretty good track record, too bad the opener and "Sons of the Silent age" were mediocre.
So are we led to believe that those aliens are dead? If so harsh, Bishop using alien lifeforms for his own benefit and making them go on a suicide mission against the Turtles.
Lots of cliche's in this episode, and some of the dialouge between the Turtles is getting a little grating. God bless Donatello, he has the less cheesy lines that Raph/Mike spout at each other, and doesn't have Leo's angst. Now if only they could give Donny some more solo episodes...
Anyone find it amusing how Bishop just pushes Mikey aside when he jumps out of the van? The TMNT just stand there as Bishop walks out. I also didn't like it how Raph so easily knocked Bishop down that chute in the spaceship. They made up for it by showing Bishop again at the end, but jeez, why do bad guys always have such terrible aim with their weapons? Lasers firing all over the place and the TMNT casually run away without getting hit.
Also liked the Triceraton in Area 51 that Bishop has captured....foreshadowing that Volume 2 of the comic series will be adapted?
3 stars overall, maybe if the last 5 or so episodes weren't as great as they were I may have liked this one better. It's harsh competing against yourself.
The episode came out better than I expected. The Area 51 bit in the intro made me think this will be corny but I was proven wrong. I don't think Bishop is an alien himself, but enhanced himself with alien DNA/technology to extend his life or something. At least, I hope he isn't an alien himself:sweat:
And I thought the "fake" aliens were actually those Bishop clones who had cosmetic changes by Stockman? Or did I misinterpret the conversation those two had in the beginning?
Speaking of Stockman, he's in a new suit. You know, I've noticed this since they've changed the opening animation, and I think others have noticed this too: Stockman's newest look is VERY reminiscent to SAINW Shredder's exosuit. This is in another of a long list of details that the show never seems to forget and makes me appreciate it even more.
Is it just me (or my bias playing), but has Don steadily growing into a more prominant role this season? For a lot of episodes, he's either been integral to moving the plot along yet able to not hog the spotlight (that's Leo's job ), or had a strong reaction to events (ie: Bad Day, People's Choice). Maybe they're playing up to the season 4 preview montage where
we see him turning into a monster?
And I had to agree with Raph. It's fun to watch them aliens pop:evil:
EDIT: Anyone think the slime running down the drain in the end will play a role in the future? Considering how the series keeps tabs on continuity, I wouldn't be surprised if they did...
I think that's going to probably cause people to mutate and change to make the turtles trip to the future possible and maybe have a cause to why they end up thier in TMNT fast forward.
Good episode. After a slow start this season, we're really getting back into the good stuff. While last week's was much better, this was still great.
The idea of Area 51 was well handled. It could've been handled poorly like in many other shows I've seen, but nothing about it was cornball, so thumbs up. The aliens in the tubes were a nice touch. I was a little surprised though to see an Utrom.
The goo at the end will probably play a hand in something. It was too prominently featured for it not to. Unless it's a red herring. I'm guessing it may somehow have an affect on Donatello's mutation.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the truth about Bishop. As everyone else has said so far, I'm hoping he's not an alien. It shouldn't be, since Shredder was, and we really don't want to see the same thing again.
All in all a good way to spend a half an hour. This show continues to be my favorite Satruday morning show, and it looks like it's only going to get better. I mean it's either this or Loonatics (barf). My opinon: 4 out of 5.
The twist in the roswell crash was interesting. So in this world it was the EPF (Called the EDF though out this episode) and Bishop who caused the crash.
That being said Earth Defence force was my only nitpick in this episode. It was established in Bishop's Gambit as the Earth Protection Force, Not a big deal as the two words mean the same thing but when you and the President don't know your own name well theres something wrong there.
It's one thing when there's a Shredder whose plans are for revenge and power, but when theres a Bishop a villain whose evil is backed up by the words "Greater good" what can you do? The Turtles in trying to stop him got to look like the badguys today. Boy will they be chewed out by Splinter.
Anyway interesting episode, I like it when the villains win, it makes the heroes seem mortal, imperfect, and this was a big loss for the Turtles. Yes their existance was already public knowledge but as far as the public knew the Turtles left with the rest of the aliens. Now they know they are still here and believe they are a threat to their way of life.
I started watching this episode thinking we were in for another real alien invasion and the writers being low on material. Turns out I was wrong. The aliens weren't real and weren't intent on destroying the world (thank goodness!) and it turned out to be a cunning scheme by Bishop to restore his good name to the president and receive funding for his EPF/EDF.
Like Requiem said, this was a better than expected episode. We have the turtles fighting aliens (who kinda resemble the martians from MARS ATTACKS!), lots of one-lners, ("ecch, he slimed me!" Get the reference? ) and a well-executed plot.
The end of the episode marked an important turning point in the series with the turtles being branded evil aliens and I'm really eager to see how it turns out.
Quite possibly an homage to the original comic art. Gotta love Peter Laird for that.
I have to point out that the turtles made a wise decision NOT to attack Bishop while in the presence of the President. It would've only solidifed the fact in the eyes of the President that the turtles are the bad guys.
Next week's episode looked pretty vague but it does involve Leo. I hope this will finally deal head on with Leo's grumpiness.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. I would have loved to see the turtles actually get the president, if only to be able to go retro and say "Ninjas have kidnapped the President!"
Random thoughts:
This episode made me love Bishop; who else has the balls to stage an elaborate hoax like that in order to fool the president to get more funding? Very Xanatos-like. And I love that he succeeded.
Re: "Earth Defense Force": Considering that the Seals still say "Earth Protection Force" and that Bishop refers to his organization as such in that scene, I think the Earth Defense Force is simply the name for the public face of the organization, as opposed to the Bishop-led Black-Ops side.
I like that the P.O.T.U.S. is getting a prominent role in this series--too many cartoons nowadays seem unwilling to actually show a president, so I'm glad to see that's not the case here.
Did anybody else notice that the bodyguard, standing besides the president, the one carrying a handgun (!), simply seemed to dissapear? Sure, something could have happened to him between scenes, but it seemed so awkward.
Speaking of guns, it's interesting to see that the national guard is still carrying around regular machine guns, even after most of the world has upgraded. Realistic, that was.
Am I the only one who thinks that the Turtles' being outted again won't affect things much? After all, the alien threat was dispatched, so they're supposedly off-planet by now. Unless you're a conspiracy theorist like H.A.T.E. was, I don't see why they'd be hunting for the turtles.
That final shot of the alien remains washing all over the sewers make me think that that's going to be the catalyst for all the new mutations which are supposed to pop out in the future; it was too focused-on to just be a throw-away scene.
Noting the names of the DVD titles there is one called "Mutant Outbreak" I do believe that slime combined with various chemicals or what not in the sewer water will cause a mutant appedemic either with humans, animals or both. And yeah it probably will have something to do with "Fast Forward" if it isn't resolved in this season. Man this shows continuity links are awesome to speculate.
I liked the effect of the Alien saucers uncloaking, very cool. Also the War of the Worlds sound queue they had. I love the parodys that this show always has.
The artist rendering of the turtles was funny as shell. Bishop continues to be a villain I love to hate. I think he is a human that is genetically altered. He hates aliens too much to be one.
I was a tad bit disappointed when the Turtles didn't go after Bishop in that scene, but what you just said makes me feel better about the whole thing.
I saw that something was going on with Bishop's hand. I wonder what that is. Then again, knowing me, that's probably something that has happened in past episodes that I either overlooked or forgot about. Oh well.
Then there was that artist's rendering of the turtles in the end. I couldn't help but crack up when I saw that.
At first, when I saw the preview, I
but when we learn the "Invasion" is a hoax I :zim:
very Luthor/Xanatos-esque of Agent Bishop.
I still wonder if Stockman is going to return as an organic being.
now that they Turtles have been outted, I expect to see H.A.T.E re-appear, as foreshadowed by the upcoming dvd. As well as the alien bio-goo that leaks into the storm drain (Mutant Outbreak)
funny reference: He slimed me.
and Raph was funny again: "I want to hear him hit bottom" and "I like it when they POP"
more role reversal: Raph asking Leo if they needed a plan, Leo responds "We take out every alien we find!" Reminds me of Jonah Hex in The Once and Future Thing: "Plan?!? We put 'em in the ground!"
I do hope we get to see Karai & the Foot soon though.
btw, in case some didn't know, the net says the next ep is about the Purple Dragons (Hun )
