Episode 1.26: Zixxth Sense
Original Air Date: October 27, 2007
Written by: Rich Fogel

Previously on Fast Forward: The turtles and Bishop, with the help of Splinter, Cody, and Serling, battle and defeat Sh?Okanabo on the moon, finally ending his threat.

This week on Fast Forward: An indestructible asteroid is floating towards Earth. Torbin Zixx knows how to stop it, but they?re going to infiltrate an enemy base in order to obtain the necessary item. Plus, given the people involved, you know something?s not kosher, but who?s playing who?

The final episode of Fast Forward, its been quite a turnaround from how this season started.

I just really wish they had a bit more time to wrap everything up, but I'll hold out to see how the beginning of Season 7 handles the Turtles return home.

I suppose I'll give this episode another shot tomorrow (via dvd, I'll be out when it airs on television), but I remember finding it rather bland and not quite as compelling as the excellent "Milk Run" from earlier on. I just didn't buy the Turtles had any logical reason to help Zixx after the past stunts he pulled, and from that point on all the double-crossing just wasn't very interesting. It was nice to see the Turtles finally get the upper-hand at the end, but that's about it.

Does anyone here think that "Day of Awakening" would've been a more suitable season finale rather than Zixxth sense?

I mean, this whole episode didn't even have the epic feel of a finale. It just seemed like your average run-of-the-mill FF episode.

Add to the fact that we have another full year(?) to go before season seven and the whole ninja tribunal arc and the whole scheduling seems thrown out of place.

Episode itself was okay...nothing too spectacular. Just glad to see Zixx get his just desserts for once. I'm amazed that Zuko is even back one more time after the turtles humiliated him in the "Milk Run" episode.

That Zixx kept me curious as to where his loyalties lie from beginning to end. Kudos to the writers for not making it glaringly obvious.

And thus, Fast Forward reaches it's end. I know a lot of people didn't enjoy it, and while it certainly wasn't the deep, dark type of story that previous seasons had, I really enjoyed it for what it was: a fun action cartoon.

Actually, Season 5 is scheduled to air around January or February, and those 12 new episodes should pace the flow nicely until Season 7 starts in the Fall.

So I imagine we only have 2-3 months of reruns, which isn't that much. Of course 4kids might air Season 5 sooner but I'm guessing they'll wait till 2008 and just rerun FF to death between now and the end of December.

Which is why I'm saying it is out of place. First the future, then the present, then back to the future? I know it was a move to boost toy sales but this is turning into one big headache.

Yeah, I understand.

4kids should also definitely re-air the finale of Season 4 again before they air Season 5 just so people remember what happened.

Its been so long now since that ep aired and its a lead-in to the next season with the TMNT on the boat.

4Kids also plans to put out the season 5 episodes on DVD in the first quarter of 2008 now as well.

Now that Fast Forward is done airing on broadcast TV, bring on season 7.

I know that Day of Awakening is considered to be the true ending point of Fast Forward until the next season, but as a standalone episode - even if it does take place after the fact - it seemed incredibly weak to me.

Zixx is not an interesting character. He has interesting motives. He certainly does not fit the norm, but he comes across as a very uninteresting character to me. =\

now I havent seen much of Fast Forward until now, and this is my first introduction to the character, but....theres just nothing there. Had he been a regular in the grittier 2K3 series (no I'm not whining, just making a comparison here) I think he'd be a lot more interesting. Otherwise it feels fairly run of the mill. I like the idea of a character that can constantly outsmart the supervillians forcing them to help him do his dirty work. But...something just felt off.

Maybe its just me.

TMNT: Fast Forward Talkback: Episode 1.26: "Zixxth Sense" (Spoilers)

Yeah, I'll have to agree with Simon here: Milk Run was a much better Torbin Zixx episode: with that episode?s uncommonly speedy pacing, there simply wasn't time for Zixx's more annoying habits to come through, or for the turtles to reflect on the mercenary's true motives. This episode, with its slower pacing and heavier focus on Zixx himself, highlights the conceptual flaws in the character, with the effect of making him look less fun, and the turtles looking like chumps.

As for Zixx himself, he's basically Jack Sparrow...of the Future! And like Jack, he's best when he's not the focus of a story. As it is, Torbin Zixx just shows up, takes the turtles on an adventure, and outsmarts everyone, making out like a bandit in the process?a Mary Sue, with the distinction that every character hates him for it. Plus, given we most likely would not have been able to see any of his adventures not involving the turtles, there's little chance for us to see any side of him other than the one we've already seen presented.

What Torbin Zixx needs is something to show that he?s not just egotistical mercenary only out for himself and capable of effortlessly besting all obstacles...he needs someone or something to fear, respect, admire, hate?something to show that he's not as one note as presented so far. This episode already set on this path, somewhat, by showing that he feared the lobsters enough to actually get them their transmat, and by not coming out the victor in his encounter with the turtles (and on that note, I'm glad it was Donny, again, who figured out Torbin's scam?he needs the spotlight), but more is needed, methinks. Were he to appear again, I?d like to see him in a different kind of role?perhaps as a hired gun directly opposing the turtles, or as the actual victim of a scam. My personal, admittedly fanficcy preference is to have him face a woman who is intellectually and (unlike the turtles) morally his match. Too bad he probably won?t get another appearance?although I wouldn?t mind seeing him stuck on 21st century Earth. Being a fish out of water may be just what he needs.

As for the episode itself, it had its moments. The ending, with a desperate, for once, Zixx was good. I liked the expansion of the 2105 underworld, and wish it?d come sooner. And I?m still surprised by the amount of drinking in Fast Forward, even if it is of the ?drink not particularly specified as alcoholic despite totally looking like beer? type. Still, not as good as others, which is kind of a bum note to end Fast Forward on. Oh well, on to the next project.

"Was it my fault she was standing next to the sushi bar?"

So, one last tale of Torbin Zixx, one last tale of TMNT: Fast Forward.

Zixx was an okay character with his moments. Weren't any of those in this episode. It is fun to see Zixx keep stringing the Turtles and others along, making them believe he's on their side, then flipping sides back and forth so many times even Benedict Arnold would be appalled. At the same time, though, that kinda makes the guy and his actions predictable. Something the writers did attempt to do, though effort and a stilted storyline will only get you so far.

"Zixxth Sense": 3.5/5.
TMNT: Fast Forward: 3/5.

Maybe in the beginning of the new Season of TMNT, we'll see Cody, Serling, and the other friends from the future for one last time, as we see the Turtles return to their original time.
