TMNT DTV movie planned?

This month's ToyFare has an interview with TMNT Supervising Producer, Lloyd Goldfine, mentions a animated TMNT movie to tie into the TMNT 25th anniversary:

"Last season Leo, Don, Raph and Mike pressed the "fast forward" button and went into the future. They make it back to the present, but someone kidnaps their mentor Splinter, and it's up to our four heroes in the half shell to save him. Unfortunately, a major villain returns to stand in their way. "There are new rules, new powers, and new threats for the Turtles (to resolve,)" says Lloyd Goldfine, (who is producer) and story editor for the series. Not only will the new season end with a wedding, but the show is going to celebrate 25 years of Turtles with a special animated movie. For the old school Turtle purists in you Goldfine assures you you'll go Cowabunga over the movie!"
 
I wonder if they're going to do get back the old cast for that DTV if it's truely retro oriented. Both shows had the same casting director afterall. I wouldn't count on that but anything retroish for TMNT is pretty cool. And something more along the lines of the original comics would be even better.

Oh but I just had a very bizzare idea... what if they made a DTV having the Turtles from the 2003 series meet the Turtles from the 80s series. Paulsen Raphael meeting Frankson/Cambell Raphael would be priceless.

Ninja Turtles DTV is teh win. Old school meeting new school would be amazing. And this is coming from someone who never even LIKED the original Ninja Turtles.
 
Blending back to the old show? Oi, and my interest in the show drops even more.. it really should have ended awhile ago back during the fourth season.
 
The DTV (if this is real) is being done for the 25th anniversary to please TMNT fans who have been here since the beginning.

It might not have anything to do with the 2k3 series. It might not even be based on the original cartoon at all.

Or it could be some weird crossover, who knows.
 
I'm sure, knowing 4Kids, they'll want their characters to have center stage in any DTV special they happen to make, no matter who else may be in it.
 
Yeah, PC2 is right. Since this info is coming from Lloyd Goldfine, and he's one of the head honchos at 4Kids, this is practically guaranteed to be an extension of the 2003 series.
 
Even though there's like no info on it, the DTV sounds pretty impressive. Since it's for the big anniversary I imagine that it will channel all or most of the Turtle incarnations in some way, whether directly or indirectly.


Yeah, I figured they were taking a season-by-season approach to the series now.

Man, if they do it this way it means we'll probably keep getting 13-episode seasons, since that cuts down on the time allowed for production, with them having to work out a new gimmick every time that all three parties accept. But TMNT has become somewhat of a pillar for 4Kids so I'm sure they'll want to continue.
 
A TMNT DTV could be pretty cool, can't wait to hear more about it.

I also hope BttS isn't the last season of the series, while the show has had a good run it still feels like it only started 2yrs ago.
 
It'll probably go on for another few seasons, 4kids is taking a season by season approach with the show now so they don't wind up with something like a cancelled Season 2 of FF that was originally being planned.

I can't see 4kids axing the franchise before the 5th movie comes out, there's too much money to be made.
 
A DTV movie for TMNT sounds pretty cool to me too. I could see it as a fun crossover type of deal with the two different series, especially if its for the 25th anniversary of the franchise. I also don't think that 4Kids will end the series before the movie comes out. While they do have some other successful shows on their lineup, I think that having the series airing while the new movie eventually comes out would promote them to keep it around a bit longer. After all, I thought that the redesigns for Back to the Sewer was to connect the series even more to the recent movie.
 
They say that, but I don't see how. Other than the Turtles having pupils and Splinter's beard, the designs don't resemble the 2007 movie much at all.
 
Just the tease is enough to make me interested and make my day. The word Cowabunga gets you thinking 80's toon turtles. {If they do have the 80's turtles in a new animated feature, they've got to look like they did in the old show (no cheap animation, the old show had enough of it), and PLEASE bring back all the original voice actors, including James Avery and Rob Paulsen.

Little known fact: James mentioned in a phone interview I conducted, that he auditioned for the role of Shredder in the NEW show. I'd love to hear that audition :).


I asked Peter Laird at the NYCC if the rules of the Mirage Battle Nexus would enable different turtles and villains from various universes to show up even for brief camero's to celebrate the 25th, and I got a standard 'possible' answer where he wasn't happy, wasn't annoyed, just a 'Go away with your ideas, kid' type response. Now I wonder if something like this wasn't in planning even way back in February :).

If I knew there was even a shred of doubt that Mike Sinterniklass would have A)known about it, or B) Told the truth about it and spilled industry secrets, I would have asked him at the New York Anime Fesitval :).
 
I was mainly referring to the turtles having pupils, outside of Cyber Space anyway, and Splinter's beard, as connecting the designs back to the movie. I think Casey and April look a bit more like their movie counterparts, but I'm not completely sure of that. I don't think that the designs could have become closer to that of the movie's, considering the movie was CGI and all.
