TMNT 2K3....Cancelled?

Just because the show's cancelled doesn't mean the franchise is going to die. I mean, look at Scooby Doo. That dog's been around a good 40 years and STILL making new movies/series.

Give the Turtles time. At some point they'll be back with another new series, even if it doesn't happen for a few years.

As far as the comics go, I think they're not selling well because I don't think under a mainstream publisher, but I don't know because I can't FIND the series in the comic book shops I go to. If the TMNT licence were to revert back to Archie (Where Sonic's series is STILL going strong a good 14 years after the show it was based on got cancelled), IDW (They seem to be putting out niche titles like Angel and Galaxy Quest), or even Marvel, TMNT might fare better.

I wonder if they were misinformed, and that whoever from 4kids said this mean that as of now the show hasn't been renewed, but it hasn't been directly cancelled...?

Most shows don't know if they're getting renewed till after November sweeps.

While I wouldn't put it past 4kids to end the show here, I think it would be stupid of them to end the show before a potential 5th movie comes out.

Still if it does end here, then I hope the rest of the eps can give the show a good conclusion.

Let's just say that if TMNT gets canned, it'll be the beginning of the end for 4Kids. Besides Yu-gi-oh, what other GOOD property do they have that would make them money?

It's a shame to see it go (if it's ending), but all good things must end sometime. Might as well end on a good note.

You know.. except for the five year break between '98-2003, we've been getting new TMNT material on TV every year since 1987.

And btw you can now legally watch every single TMNT episode on the 4Kids website, if you're in the mood: http://4kidstv.com/tmnt

Very well said. Yu-Gi-Oh! is good, but dead. Kids just don't care. It's a dead fad, that I'm betting 4Kids will sell, just like Pokemon.

4kids will be dead in 5 years. After their contract runs out no other channel is going to want their shows, and I doubt they'll have the money to renew.

Unlike when KidsWb and Toonami died, there won't be anyone who "misses" 4kids as a programming block. There will be fans of some of their shows of course, but the company or programming block as a whole will be widely despised, even more than it is already. I imagine people will be spitting on their grave.

Actually, I'D miss 4Kids as a programming block.

You want to know why? Because 4Kids is the only company who actually still makes an effort to provide exclusive quality programming for all ages, which is what Saturday mornings used to be all about.

With them out of the way, Saturdays would just devolve into only news programs, E/I shows, and Disney Channel stuff (which is what's currently going on with the other channels, but that's my point).

Maybe not as a programing block but since I believe Saturday morning cartoons would pretty much die with 4kids I will be sad in some ways to see them go. Right now i see them as the only people who really care about Saturday Morning blocks for children, especially animation.

When 4kids Dies hello infomercials, reruns and court shows.

There's already not much on their Saturday lineup worth watching.

Spiderman is leaving, TMNT might be as well, and everything else is just something you have to be a fan of (like Yu-gi-oh or Dinosaur King) and those are anime shows that only appeal to certain people.

If anything, I want to see Cartoon Network have a really good Saturday morning block. If 4kids dies, then so be it. Let Saturday mornings die outside of Cartoon Network, maybe then they can give us a really good Saturday morning worth watching.

Oh no argument there but I still don't want to see Saturday Mornings die. Really 4kids blocks are not great and they seem to be over their heads but at least they are trying. Since it seems that there is no one to pick up the slack if they leave I don't want them to, simple as that.

Yeah...tell that to the thousands of kids who visit their website and post on their forums everyday.

And even among older ages, 4Kids is becoming less hated by the day. Sure you'll see a stubborn anime fan here or there, but as 4Kids drifts away from anime, the hate will eventually disappear as well.

Well, that's your opinion. I personally don't think it's necessary to have iconic super hero shows in order to make a decent programming block.

I'm looking forward to a lot of 4Kids shows coming out in the next year. Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight looks to be one of the best American adaptations of a toku show ever. Huntik: Secrets and Seekers was rated the #1 action series at MIPCOM 2008. While not much is known about the series, the teaser for Rollbots looked excellent. The comedy side is looking intriguing as well, with GoGoRiki (easily one of the best E/I shows on the air), Rocket Monkeys and HTDT.

Yeah, that's a lot of new shows on the air, but that's what I like about it. Over the past few years, 4Kids has been mainly relying on a few select shows (TMNT, YGO, Viva Pinata, Chaotic, and Dinosaur King), and I'm glad that they're finally branching out and acquiring several new series from a variety of companies around the world. That's what a Saturday morning broadcaster should be doing.

I think indifference toward 4kids is a better word. The anime fans don't hate 4kids as much, but the bitterness toward them still exists. Hell, even some Pokemon fans still complain about them and how they changed so much of the Japanese music. If you go to the Pokemon fansites you'll still see people talking about how lousy they were, and Pokemon was one of their better dubs!

Don't get me started on the One Piece fandom. The wounds were deep, and even some TMNT fans haven't gotten over the Fast Forward direction. (Although I personally didn't mind that, since I liked a good chunk of FF"s episodes).

Saying there isn't still a lot of hatred of bitterness toward 4kids is a stretch, I think the reason why you don't see so much of it anymore is that, as you said, now that they're done destroying anime people don't care as much.

Oh I agree, some of those shows will probably turn out to be decent. I personally have no interest in them, but I know people are looking forward to them.

My problems with 4kids has more to do with the company itself, not the shows they air, leading up to the big fat cat in charge Alfred R. Kahn himself. How many people hate this guy with a passion?

When I heard 4kids was taking over the CW I was willing to give them a chance, but now I can see with the possible cancellation of TMNT after only 13 eps of this new series...they're going back to their old money grubbing tactics. Yes, TMNT had a good run, but you don't revamp the show and pull the plug after only 4 new eps aired when the show is approaching its 25th anniversary next year. Most kids probably don't even know the new series is airing on CW yet, and they're already cancelling it? What kind of logic is that?

And yeah, they're not going to be missed as much as KidsWB or Toonami were as programming blocks. That much is a given.

There's still no solid evidence that the series is canceled, and furthermore, if this rumor is true, there's no solid evidence that 4Kids is the one who's pulling the plug. From what the 4Kids rep said, they definitely want to continue making more episodes and he is 'cautiously optimistic' about the future of the series.

Which means we also don't know if the cancellation is true or, if it is, the reasons and people behind the decision. You're jumping to conclusions.

The only information this is based on is some random poster, who claims to have inside information and yet hasn't posted any newsworthy information in the past. Literally anyone could have started this rumor.

Also keep in mind that 4kids seems to like Viral Marketting. This could also be some stupid ploy to get conversation going just to see how much interest is there to have the show continue into at least one or two more seasons.

If that's the case, one more reason to hate Viral Marketing.

Direct From Peter Lairds blog when we posed the question>>>

>>

No, but I'll comment about it here. I suppose there is a possibility that the rumor is true, but I have not heard anything from 4Kids confirming it. If it is true, it's unfortunate, but not the end of the world. -- PL>>>

So, if it is true, it's SO secretive that even Mirage hasn't heard about it yet. Sort of brings the rumor into a bit of doubt in my eye, as you'd think that 4Kids would have the guts to talk about it with Mirage before they even THINK about canceling it on their own...
