Titanic Kate Winslet - mature actresses/Actors

I was watching this AGAIN the other day and still think Kate looks an awful lot older than the seventeen year old she is supposed to be. I have noticed an awful lot lately that alot of actors and actresses used as younger people in films are all at least 10 years older than the character they play can you think of any others?

She was only 22 when the film was released so maybe not even that when it was filmed. Four or five years older than her character?

Jared Leto in Highway, was meant to be the same age as the Jake Gyllenhaal character, when in fact he's 9/10 years older then him - although he did get away with it quite easily, still looks a good few years younger then he actually is these days.

And whilst I think about it...the woman who played 'Old Rose' in Titanic...she was supposed to be '101 next month'....didn't look that old to me. Although hard pushed to find someone that age who can act and breathe, so will let them have that one.

Mark Hamill was a lot older than what Luke Skywalker was supposed to be, especially by the time of Return of the Jedi when he was like 30 and Luke should have been around 20!

Ooh, just remembered Michael J Fox in BttF. That's why they filmed 2 and 3 back to back because they figured they were pushing the limits of him being 17!

Ah dear Kate! I can forgive her so much as she has proven herself to be one of the finest actresses of her generation even if she seems to have disaappeared up her own backside of late! I always thought she was the best thing about TITANIC and did wonders with the script (bad as it was!) proving herself to be better than the material she was working with. I'd watch her in just about any old guff if only to see how she spins gold out of the dross she is handed. At her worst she is miles ahead of the rest of her contemporaries and I've a feeling the best is yet to come!
P.S. I am not Sam Mendes in disguise!!!

Really crappy film but Kelly from Destiny's Child in Freddie v Jason. No way did she look like a high school kid. But i think in general High school films they do use allot of older actors. In John Tucker Must die the whole cast had long said goodbye to high school!!

And bloody hell Kate Winslet was only meant to be 17????? Olivia Newton John just got away with it but i thought 'Rose' was meant to be mid-twenties!!!

I would agree 100% with this. Heavenly Creatures was on on BBC1 this week and we watched being reminded again how excellent she is (and this was her film debut). Her performance in Jude is again, amazing even though I found it a very hard film to watch due to the subject matter. And of course full marks for her choosing to not to go totally mainstream after Titanic, following them up with Hideous Kinky (one of my al time favourite films) and Holy Smoke.
