Freshman year of college there was this girl I liked. Gamer, just like me.
Unfortunately she had a boyfriend, but they soon broke up and (i'm kinda ashamed to say) i was real happy about it. However, I didn't see her for a few days until this one night when i had decided that I would tell her how i felt and ask her out. Too bad her ex got there first and they got together again about 20 minutes before i could have talked to her...
So I decided that even though i couldn't ask her out, I would tell her how i felt (partly since i didn't see their 'new' relationship lasting too long). Two of my friends were helping me out with this, giving me encouragement and one of them offered to have a small anime-fest and just invite me her and the other friend that was helping me. (All-night Slayers Next marathon woot!) So she came over and I met her at the door to the dormitory floor and asked if we could talk here for a while before going to Frankie's (the friend with the anime) room. She said sure and i told her how i felt and she said she felt the same way. So we went to Frankie's room all smiles, but my other friend said he wanted to talk to me for a sec.
So us two went back out in the lounge and he admitted to me that although he was trying to help me with this, he had a crush on her too.
Wow
So he also tells me that he's gonna keep helping me, he just had to get that off his chest. In the next week to come (while her ex/current boyfriend was off on a ski-trip or something we were hanging out. (No I wouldn't have let her 'cheat' on him even if she had wanted to.. I'm not that kind of guy, though we did kiss once or twice) My friend kept inviting both of us over to watch movies and play games, etc. All the while he kept acting fidgety while she and I sat or lay together on the couch. Eventually she asked him what was wrong and he told her flat out, in front of me, that he liked her too.
So a few days later, her boyfriend broke up with her again.. Guess who she's with now?
So despite all that, the three of us are all still the best of friends. He's actually my roommate and I see her all the time, so I couldn't exactly alienate her. But we still played games and watched movies etc. So yeah.. I've read the thread and people say different things, but really it depends on you. Take the advice you want, because only you can decide what'll work best. Stay away or be friends is up to you.
I hope this is at least a distraction for you.
