Tired of the Bullshit!

(WARNING: This is a tl;dr post, just so your forewarned.)

Alright, so let me start by saying that I work at a department store. I'll leave it unnamed, or else I'd probably be shot in my sleep for this. It's a shitty one, and I don't like how this company runs things, but oh fucking well, it's a goddamned job, I'll suck it up and deal.

Lately it's really been getting to me. I used to work at another sales-oriented store (some people might remember my other work rants from way back when), so it's not anything new. But this place is worse. At the other store (btw, let me mention that it's right next door to where I work now, woohoo), things got to me personally. I promised myself I would not let things bother me this way, but it might get ugly.

BOSS

Lots of bosses suck, I know this, but I've never wanted to slap some fucking sense into one as much as I do my current boss. She's a fucking drama queen.

"Oh no, the DM is coming in tomorrow, we are so screwed!"

"This place is a mess and nobody is helping me out!".

"My life sucks, oh woe is me!"

No, it's not the end of the world, get your fucking act together and do your job, bitch! It's a what? It better not be a mess, because I bust my fucking ass and go out of my way following people around to clean up after them, and I do a fucking mighty fine job, too!

Yesterday morning, I didn't have any freight (clothes that come in daily, that we must put out of the floor, i.e. sales floor), and I didn't have any markdowns, no sales to assign or take down, so I decide to help one of my co-workers out. She's starting to get sick, and since I usually have no one to help me when I'm this way, I figure this would be nice. Builds up karma, too.

Her department is fucked up, shes got shitloads of freight still in the back, she took down her sales last night because some stupid lady bitched and moaned about something not being the price it said it was supposed to be, when it was just stuck in the wrong place. (Taking down a sale, means that you just take all the signs off the racks.) She's got 2 weeks of markdowns to do, and she just needs some help.

So I'm helping her do the markdowns, just marking everything red, yellow, or green ticket, when the boss walks in. She looks at my co-workers department and sees that there isn't a single sign up (keep in mind, its about 10:30 or so, and nobody's in the store, so does it fucking matter at the moment?). I hear her, despite the fact that she's trying to whisper, say to my co-worker "Why aren't there any signs up?"

"Well, we had a problem late last night so I just took them down so I could put them back up this morning."

"Well, why aren't you doing that? And what's SHE doing over here?" (Indicating me.)

"She's helping me do markdowns, and I still need to print my signs, but (insert name)'s on the computer."

After that, she takes her in the back and I guess proceeds to bitch at her about what she's doing wrong, which I can't see at all, since she's a supervisor, and knows what she's doing.

I take up finishing the markdowns, and when I'm done, I go in the back to ask her if there are any more to do, or can I get started on my freight (which wasn't very much, a couple of toddler shirt sets and so forth). But I can't get in, because one of our rolling racks is fucking stuck right up in the way of the door. My co-worker comes beside me and says, "yeah, she's mad at me, that's why it's all like this," WTF? Apparently she got so pissed that she just rammed this thing up there so there could be room in the back.

She's fucking THAT immature? No, I'm really confused here, I thought that being a manager meant being able to handle yourself in such a way as to be an example to your employees, and to have a calm environment in the store that exuded "Customer Service" and all sorts of other bullshit? Wtf is SHE, a manager, doing acting like this? THIS is what makes me want to slap her!

You know how to handle that situation? CALMLY tell your associate supervisor that she needs to do her freight, but set her sale first, then DON'T go pushing random shit around like your all mad as hell!

So the boss comes up and asks me if I can put out her (my co-worker's) freight, while she deals with something else. Alright, fine, no-fucking-problem. I put out about 3 rolling racks of freight in about an hour (not bad), then go put my freight out, move some shit around, and VOILA, the back room is cleared. I didn't HAVE to do that, did I? Not my fucking problem, I could have just stood up front and waited for people to come check out, or I could have vaccuumed, or cleaned the fitting rooms, all that bullshit. HOWEVER, I did that to help someone out, but did I get a thank you? Nah. Just a, is everything done? Okay.

Bitch, please. I can do my fucking job, can you do yours? Obviously not, with the way you acted earlier. I don't care what other kinds of shit you have to deal with outside of work, everyone has those problems, but do you see me marching in here like fucking Hitler on the warpath, striking people down on the way? No, you stupid fucking blue-hair, because I have some goddamn decency and integrity. I would like to see how the DM (district manager, one of the big wigs) would have reacted to that little stunt. Don't think you'd be in the hot seat, then? Well good thing he wasn't here. I'd love to tell him how immature you are, but since he doesn't fucking speak to "associates", then I guess it's your lucky day, huh?

The system is so fucked here. :suicide:

Anyways, more to come.

damn polaris. that sucks. i've heard some shitty work stories about retail, but this one is UP there. when i worked at a video store, we had to take a personality test before we were considered. one of the questions was about helping out others where help is needed. that is one quality highly looked for in workers. sadly, your boss is just too much of a psychopath to appreciate it.

i hope you work doesn't go unnoticed. you're a good person, the important ones know it. those who don't will find out one way or another :)

Yea, that sucks Polaris. I guess I'm going to know what it's like here starting next year. I got a job lined up for me at a local golf course.

Anyways, good luck with your job. Hope it gets somewhat better than what it has been.

;817738']A cagin' is coming. I can just smell it.

Anyway, polaris- I've worked in a store like that. My manager used to spaz out a lot. I know how it goes.

Start putting in applications elsewhere.

Your boss and my former boss would be best friends, polaris. I never understand psychotic bosses that let their work get under their skin but expect you to hold it together no matter what's going wrong.
