Tips for Running Outdoors?

Well running outdoors is a lot different from running on a treadmill, it is generally much harder and requires more effort. When you are outdoors the surface isn't level and can be bumpy at points, also you will be running on a different surface which may be very soft and hard to run on like grass or tough and hard to run on like concrete. So the best thing would be to wear a good pair of running shoes or training shoes and wear shorts to make it easier to run as they don't weigh as much and won't absorb much water like longer pants/trousers and make it even heavier. Also, don't just start running long distances straight away, just start with what your comfortable with and build up from there and you will finally get the hang of running long distances no problem.

I love running and kind of lost it the last couple years. I just recently started up again and I'm doing pretty good. The only problem is that the weather has been shitty so I have been running on the treadmill (and I can run about 4 miles), but when I start running outside I can barely run five mintues? What the heck? How can I improve this?

i suggest running outdoors. Even if the weather doesn't look to good, you should still go for a run outside. I never run on a treadmill for many reasons: 1)Its boring, 2)Your actually burning less calories that you would on a regular run because their is no incline on the treadmill (unless you have the setting) 3)Running on a treadmill can be hard on you shins and it increases your risk of shin splints (if out doors, run on asphalt dirt, grass, or sand but NEVER concrete). If you really don't like running outdoors I would consider setting your treadmill to an incline or taking on a new sport (water aerobics, yoga or even tai bow!) Hope this helped ;)
