Tin Man/Wizard of Oz

I supposed this should go in the Cult section, but Sci Fi Channel are doing a remake/re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz.

From the Trailer it seems a lot darker and certainly less musical then the original.

Starring as with any of the Sci-Fi productions a whole host of people the main characters are played by Kathleen Robertson, Richard Dryfuss, Zoey Deschanel and Alan Cummings.

The Tin Man aka Nick Chopper, was in love with a Munchkin girl who was a servant girl to an evil witch. The witch didn't want to lose her servant to the WooRABman Nick Chopper so she enchanted his axe and he cut off his arm. The girl helped his fashion a tin arm. The witch saw this and kept at the enchantments until he was all made of tin...since his heart was gone he could no longer love the girl and she stayed with the witch.

SounRAB as if it will be good if Richard Dreyfuss is in it.

I seem to remember the book being darker than the film - and there was a lot more to the story after they had met the Wizard, about trying to get home. I think the book and all its sequels are available on the web - I'll just have a google...

The Magic of Oz

There are at least 40 books in the series, so plenty of material for films - why keep remaking the same one?

From the trailer, I am liking what I see (so far). Sadly knowing Sci Fi UK it will be two years before they show it here, the same with the Dune they did a few years back.

Definitely seems a lot more darker and twisted then the original movie, reminRAB me of the Snow White: Tale of Terror film starring Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neill.

I'm looking forward to this.

As much as I like the Judy Garland movie, it was not a faithful adaptation. Return to Oz actually stylistically felt truer to the books, but again was really only pieced together from elements from all the books, of which there are loaRAB.

Wasn't there a silent movie version made earlier than the Garland one?
